No problem. I may be making a follow up shortly. I think it unlikely you'll have damaged it as it would have to bend 90degrees to poke through the diaphragm that forms the moisture barrier.

Had a very similar thing happen to my 1 iv except mine's never been splashed or submerged, all it took was steam from being near the shower to get condensation inside. Now the power button doesn't work 90% of the time and will randomly press every few minutes and there's condensation in the AF sensor so the camera won't focus either..so much for ip65/68 rating 🙄 I was in spain at the time and now I'm wondering if the heat could have degraded the sealant since you were in a hot country also

You better off splashed it or submerged it . Steam have way higher pressure than water. Also way more corrosive

I don't think it was through the mics. That was my initial theory but before I discovered the membrane between the mic ports and the PCBs. As far as I could tell it got in between the back case and the camera lens glass cover.

It's one of the mics, you can't damage anything doing that as there's a sharp 90degree turn before the water barrier and then the actual microphone.

I'm also slightly suspicious it was the act of removing the cover (via some form of tamper detection) that bricked the radio on mine. Though i can't be sure as I didn't pay enough attention. I just know I didn't notice any actual fault until the cover was removed and there is no way the act or removing the cover should lead to this fault. I've not made any comment re this until now because I can't be certain and I haven't yet heard of similar from anywhere else. If you do remove it with no problem be sure to let me know please.

Thanks for sharing. I bought this phone a week ago, and send it back cause it had strange vibration and tactics sound. In silent environment it's making strange irritating sound like loud tapping. Now I don't know if they will service it or send me the new one. Does anyone have such a similar problem?
@mangodan-ps6qu

Is it the same sound/tap/vibration one or more of the camera modules makes when you open the camera app - initialising the ois, zoom or focus i suspect? I had noticed this occasionally some time ago but not recently. And nowhere near enough to be annoying. It did it once or twice when not using the camera which I thought was weird as I recognised it as the camera. Possibly resolved by a system update which there's been 3 or 4 of already. Our house is very quiet at night and I sleep with it right next to my head on my bedside table. I'm a very light sleeper and would know for sure if it was making noises in the night.

I had the same \experience with a Z Ultra which still functions to this day, used to wash with soap a few times when it got very dirty or a bit of oil contamination from food, really seemed to be sealed very well although I wouldn't do that anymore now since rubber can desintegrate, such as the SIM SD card cover, which the gasket came loose and off. I have since replaced the whole cover I have since not done as much and avoided water contact at all possible, except for cases of usage with rain (as rain drizzle is more of low volume per area splash so less likely to , since the devices has gotten more expensive, and water resistance and contact outcomes can be inconsistent But with the original Xperia 1 (Mk. 1), a very similar thing happened to me as well. Because I took good care of it, no signs of any damage, never dropped even once Just I made the mistake of giving it a quick soap wash, the one and only time, after it's been over 3 years (Since typically water resistance is expected to last around 2 years, maybe 3 in better cases, but wouldn't risk it now, after having done so; I think I was a bit overconfident from the previous experiences) And it immediately had some level of water ingres and the up volume button would activate stuck on without ever pressing it, which made it difficult to even turn off so took me a bit longer than I should have I immediately tried to rinse it with alcohol; instead of having remembered to have done so to begin with and avoided water completely. And then put it in a dry heat behind the exhaust of a processor at low to medium workload, (which is a go to method for me to dry delicate objects for quite some time since I don't have any specialised equipment) as I though that would be more optimal and more gentle and the heat would spread and dissipate better without accidentally concentrating to being too much and damage the battery or cook to damage something else; something similar to your oven technique but I wasn't sure of the approaches since it was so unexpected, so decided that that way would'be been safer for me After some time, maybe 30min I went to check and the phone felt ok, it was hot on the back side facing the exhaust fan but felt more mainly on the glass so the heat seemed adequate, without being too much to pass it onto the battery or whole phone, while being hot enough to evaporate small quantities of water And I tried turning it back on soon after letting it cool down to test see if it's all ok And surprisingly at the time it seemed perfectly fine, felt like no moisture at all inside when it was toasty, and all functioned as expected, with the volume inner contact no longer shorted So I though what a relief and all seemed fine and over, and my processor exhaust heat method triumphed once again lol So I left it there to sleep and repose to let everything such as the heat cycle of all materials to settle, and if there where still minimum moisture left it could just evaporate slowly in a few hours in a less aggressive manner, since it seemed to not be any that would pose any danger or threat to the internal components by then I went to sleep, but 12 hours later, I went to pick it up to check, expecting everything to be fine and it all behind me; the worse happened It would not react at all to anything, like it suffered a sudden death I tried soaking in alcohol, and then another longer heat cycle. None of it made any different, the damage was done and it wouldn't turn back on ever again To this day I still don't know if it was a consequence of liquid damaged, or perhaps the heat cycle with it's aging components But I do think it's too coincidental for it to be a natural failure (surprisingly the battery seemed to still be able to charge since I also tested to see if and hoping that maybe it's a battery problem; and the battery would get warm in the same way as when it was charging normally before, but the screen any any other response such as the vibration when it powers on, never activated again) So I'm thinking about looking for a good board repair place to see if it can be revived, as it holds some sentimental value to me as well Also it'll do great as my secondary still alongside the ! Mk.V I'm on as well now So core lesson, avoid any necessary water exposure at all if you can, and only use non conductive liquids such as alcohol to be in any significant contact such as washing or rinsing any electronics devices no matter the water resistance (despite having shot and filmed in a day of very heavy rain but only a few minutes and quickly wiped it dried after each take, and fortunately it was perfectly fine (although the 1 Mk. 1 also "seemed fine but difference being no signs at all compared to obvious signs with the volume button), it's been weeks so fortunately it's perfectly good still))

I had opened the 1 Mk.1 up and there's seems to be no signs of any damage or corrosion which complicates a bit with diagnosis Also tested another new battery and no change at all, so yea, board repair it seems it's gonna have to be To the point of inconsistent water resistance and damage, there are phones that are literally corroded all over and still even turn on as if nothing, and other ones that barely has any and yet never turns back on ever again Sure hope mine is not that latter kind of case :/

My Xperia 1 II also broke yesterday. I guess it is also water, which is similar to your performance. It can be charged, but it cannot be turned on. I checked the purchase time, and I have used it for 3 years and 3 months. I am a bit clean, so every time I go home, I wipe the mobile phone with a 75%alcohol wet towel, and then use the tap water to pump my hand, and then wipe the phone indirectly with the water on my hand. I am considering buying Xperia 5 V. After seeing your detailed explanation, I worry that I can't wipe my phone with water so frequently in the future.
