Myne is really lucky that her original mom was so into DIY stuff. She didn't learn how to make shampoo, scented candles (there was a single frame in the anime, but in the light novel she made better candles than everyone else), baskets, and crochet from books but rather from her mother. If her original mom hadn't made her do all that stuff with her then she wouldn't have been nearly as impressive to her knew family. Her innovations would have been a hairstick and pancakes. Of course her math ability and desire to learn would have still been impressive too, but she really went far with her DIY skills.
@gracec8c

Yeah! And not to get all feminist here, but its super refreshing how much respect Bookworm places on these 'crafts'. Like a lot of this stuff is more traditionally feminine (crochet/shampoo/etc) and is often not really brought up in similar stories. But in Bookworm, its front and center and Myne would never have gotten as far as she did without them. Its just really neat.
@manuele.floresc
21 күн бұрын
It's kind of sad at the same time, it's never stated but the light novel implies that the reason the mom kind of forced her to do all those things is she wanted her daughter to find an interest besides books so they could bond together. That's why the mom would never stick with a craft but try many different ones. Since back then she cared more about books than her family.

In the manga, there is a page at the end where it's explained how papyrus was actually made. It has nothing to do with how Myne was trying to do it! no loom involved either! She admited she didn't remember the manufacturing method, and she guessed it totally wrong (not that she would be able to make the right way, it seems equally as difficult as regular paper). This is a thing I like about this series, she is no Senku. She may have read a lot, but she doesn't have a pristine Wikipedia copy in her head.
@IISheireenII

I am glad they aknowledge it. It really annoyed me how much she was doing wrong to get papyrus. Even as a kid I knew how that is made. Without naturally sticky grass fibres it's impossible. And you have to bash the (soaked) papryrus gras for it to release the fibres and glue them on top of each other. In alternating directions and with a lot of force. Even if she had the right type of gras, Myne would be way too weak to do that.

A small detail that isn't told to us in the anime is that Gunther's father was a carpenter, that's why he's good at wood work. Further details and related tid-bits: Gunther's father wanted him to be carpenter, or something carpenter adjacent, but Gunther heard stories about knights from minstrels and decided to be a soldier instead. Effa's father was a soldier, a gate commander specificly, and was the one who gave Gunther his job as a soldier. He also didn't allow Gunther to marry Effa though he was warn down eventually, Effa was likewise conviced through a hard fought battle. Lutz' father is Gunther's cousin. Meaning that Lutz is Myne's second cousin.

Funny that you mentioned that they don't have a loom, because they actually do. In a lot of the scenes, you see a bunch of rocks hanging from strings on the wall, that's what looms were like before the advent of the spreader loom. It makes sense for Myne because the nobles (other than Ferdinand) don't know her true self, so she can't wholly love them the way she does her commoner family. She adores Charlotte and Melchior, loves Cornelius and Elvira, but they don't know anything about her true struggles and she's not even sure if any of them would still care for her if they knew she was a commoner (with the exception of Elvira obviously). There's always going to be a wall in her heart between those who know her as Myne and those who only know her as Rozemyne.

@@Odd_Taxi_epi04 in Rome do as the Romans do, at least she made their lives much better, and the orphans who are literate, know maths and especially those who have skills required in the process of paper/book making became much more valuable workers which means not everybody can afford them, and those who do would most probably purchase them for creating their own workshops and would treat them well. I think it's much more realistic when the world doesn't bend for the sake of MC's morale/ideals or audience's sensitivity (that Realist Hero isekai looks very bad in comparison, everything changes on MC's whim), and the MC just has to adapt to various circumstances trying to do their best to make a difference when it's possible

sorry but both overlord and mushoku tensei can't hold a candle to the level of worldbuilding in bookworm. it's 7 light novel volmes for 3 seasons of anime and it's only the introduction to the series. the level of depth the story goes into commoner/noble/royal culture, religion and magic system is super detailed and plays essential role in everything that's going on. pretty much no power creep as well.

It fills me with joy to see more people enjoying this wonderful story. I will say, though, the people translating the anime have annoyed me with their poor translations. @ChocolatierRob

The author explained it as - Urano was reborn as Myne but did not get full access to her memories until she was on the border of death. Though I don't think its in the anime anywhere there is a chapter in the LN from Effa's perspective where she talks about the strange dream Myne used to talk about where she was never ill or hungry, these were Urano's memories but Myne could only see them in her dreams until with one bad fever she unlocked them completely and the Urano persona took over (due to the past life memories being so much fuller than those of a 5yr old who could rarely leave her bedroom).

Last time I watched this series, I had a cleverish idea. Myne is coming up with all of this unexplainable stuff, and it's weird, right? Easy out. Just tell your folks that, ever since "that" fever, she's been having unconscious inspirations. Pretty primitive culture, so there is much they can't reason out about the world, so just give them a magic answer that can't be disproven! They have no explaination for why she is making 19th century stuff in the 1400's, but the things she makes are proof that SOMETHING is giving her ideas. Blame gods or holy spirit, brain damage, and cover her ass!
