I remember this episode and never dreamed I would ever see it again. Thanks a bunch for posting this. The most respectable and informed guest, the late great Jim Cirillo, was the one who was the least called upon. I suppose his character and demeanour were not controversial enough for a show like this, so they went for ratings, as usual... What happened to all the great New Yorkers? It has not always been the devil's den of liberalism that it is today...I remember...

I think the reason he wasn't called upon much was because he wasn't a very good speaker. It didn't look easy to get answers out of him.

He smoked like a freight train, He died of lung cancer and after He got diagnosed He was very pro-smoking and then He turned against cigarettes and became an anti-smoking activist RIP

The commissioner was actually correct. NYC lowered its crime rate to what it is today by increasing patrol and prosecuting minor crime more aggressively. As the commissioner said, the fear of apprehension reduces/prevents crime.
