I bought an MLAD (full power) from AEA with some deployment bucks, I really like it so far. Power output and form factor blow my issued PEQ out of the water. The illuminator is evenly lit unlike the HLAD tested here and no PEQ-petri dish either, just a super clean, super bright illuminator. Just a note the crane plug was SUPER fucking tight on the unity AXON that I have it linked to. I like the MLAD, and I think its a better option for the same price as a (probably stolen) PEQ unit... but I think the pricing is WAY off on the HLAD. It sounds like a lot of the issues youre having with the HLAD is just the fact that AEA charges (already inflated) full power prices for non full power lasers.

DI (Dong In) Optical used to have a branch here in the US in Orange County (maybe south LA county) CA. I did some work for them and traded my labor for some red dots. It was the cheapest way for me to get red dots with NV settings. I like all of the stuff I've got, one of them you showed, is heavy AF, and would probably only ever put it on a belt fed or something. They used to be carried by optics planet, and as near as I can tell, their office moved. They are a cool company to work with and have some neat tech. One of the main things they offered were these giant window red dots for M2HBs, Mk 19's and M134's that had a flip down magnifier. It's good to see their stuff getting some media. $1700 seems a bit on the pricy side, I don't know if that's just what the importer was charging, or something, their pricing usually seemed to be slightly above the chinese red dots, and 20-30% off aimpoint, etc. This was something I had not seen before.

I have beat the shit out of the gun using it in tough physical matches like Desert Brutality. I will admit I did accidentally drop the gun on hard concrete once which probably doesn't help. Still kinda sours my opinion on the optic. I think those radial dials are a bad design and a structural weak point. My eotech has been through similar abuse and still works great. The optical glass in red dots is not curved and doesn’t need complex and expensive tooling to produce like magnified optics. Plus you can just buy flat glass blanks from international suppliers. And lastly South Korea does have an established industry in making magnified optics for other industries so it wouldn’t be too hard to pivot some of that into magnified gun optics.
@asomeguy3000

Incorrect. There is a subtle positive magnification on red dots. The main reflector is a weak meniscus lens that aids in refining the emitters uniformity. Also red dot glass needs anti reflective filters which require complex processes.
@shaocaholica
Жыл бұрын
I stand corrected. Red dots are collimator optics but beyond that are very simple optically compared to a _modern_ magnified optic. Red dots don't use anti reflective 'filters' per say. They are coatings which I want to say were pretty niche process back in the day but it seems like a lot of that knowledge has 'globalized' into for lack of a better term factories in china that don't really hold industrial secrets like western countries do. However I still think red dots are vastly easier to produce than magnified optics(up to modern standards).

1st, true ... DI Optical is def. an underrated brand (I own an RV1 and for under 200$ it is probably my best investment so far) BUT 1,7K (and over) for an IR Laser/Ill. is a budget I can't afford so through the years my main combo was a Lasermax (IR) paired with a TLR-1 (IR). Despite their fair prices, I have to admit that they pretty much s...k ! @toddinfl
Жыл бұрын
@@TeletubbiesRcute A 940 nanometer light is not as bright as an 850 so a 775 would be brighter than an 850. Also, white light is measured in nanometers so the closer ir gets to white light nanometer level the brighter it is.
@highdesertdrew1844
Жыл бұрын
1040nm is the "least bright" of the IR diodes because it doesn't have a red glow visible to unaided eyes. 940nm typically has a slight red glow, 740nm is a lot closer to the 630nm red lasers, so I guess in terms of "visible" this is what you mean. If you desire a laser that can be seen by NVDs but not unaided eyes, you want something closer to 1040.
@FirePrank6
Жыл бұрын
Perceived brightness is determined by both power, typically mW, and wavelength in nm, NV devices are most sensitive to 850nm hence why most units are around that 800-870nm range, 900+nm units were experimented with to reduce visible signature to naked eye and it turned out to achieve the same illuminator performance required much more power and thus made the visible signature similar, jwramp has a post about this where he compares visible signature of different units. There are military rangefinders in the 1300nm range which are invisible even to NV.

@@Hoplopfheil I figured this is better than a grey market peq. I acknowledge I give up some things for not shelling wilcox raid or NGAL cash. Form and weight factor if fine for me, I don't use tape switches, and I can live with a lack of warranty (most US companies dont really warranty class 3 for civilians anyway). Only feature I care a bout is a class 3 illuminator and a usable laser.
