This is an awesome video! Thanks for posting it. I am an American. I grew up in the 1970's and 1980's. I am a Patriot American. That being said. I love and admire the Soviet Hockey Dynasty of 1951-1991. And Vladislav Tretiak was, is, and will always be the single greatest hockey goal tender in the history of the game. Period. He is a true sports hero!

I use to love watching older international tournaments as it seemed each country had their own style of play. The Russians were always high skilled where as Canad hockey was skilled but more of a grinding physical style. Now it seems that most teams play the same style. Its too bad as I enjoyed watching the old soviet teams play

you have to remember that the soviet union didnt let any of their players go over to the nhl, plus 70 % of the year the soviets national team was out on training camp

i kinda agree with you and do not so im nuetral but i think that almost everyone in KHL are around equal skill most of them have played in the NHL for example like andrei kovalenko for the severstal cherepovets or darius kasparitis or alexei yashin. Its hard to compare which league is better. And back then the russians where the better players to score 7 goals against dryden back then was hard its just like saying scoring 7 goals nowadays and the soviets did that.

The Russians were certainly more conditioned the the Canadeian players. The Canadian players worked in the summers to make ends met (older days) where Russian players were mostly all military paid players.

1)what's a "connie?" Who taught you how to spell? 2)just because you haven't heard of a player doesn't mean they're bad OR good, it just means you're uninformed 3)goals are harder to come by than assists, last year only 3 guys had 50 or more goals, and 20 had 50 or more assists, 6 more at 49a...there are secondary assists, no secondary goals....can't get an assist unless another guy finishes but you can get a goal without needing an assist. Goals are harder and more important.

its speculation...you cant possibly say that. It was a completely different time period its like comparing apples and oranges. And I agree that Gretzky is arguably one of the best, if not the best to play, but Kharalamov is also a candidate. But the thing is, Soviet Russia hockey team is the best to ever lace em up.

tretiak is the greatest goalie ever, the nhl team that got him would have won the cup every year. But I absolutely love kharlamov. I have his soviet jersey in russian. He was the russian gretzky, no doubt about it. If not better.

I remember watching a Tretiak training segment on TV back in the 70's. The man was an incredible athlete in addition to being a superb goaltender. Placed a great deal of emphasis on leg strength and overall conditioning. I imagine his goaltending school is pretty tough.

Kharlamov played a lot less games per season than Gretzky. I don't see Gretzky passing 200 points around 35 games. but you cant hate on either of em, both were amazing players.

@skullrimer I agree, Bobby Orr is the best all around player I have ever seen (my opinion), but kharlamov was the most explosive. I always felt Kharlamov would score every time he touched the puck. Wish I could have seen more of him.
