The song "True" has been sampled in many songs including Queen Pen’s 1998 hit “It’s True” and Nelly’s “’N’ Dey Say” in 2004. It was a No.1 US Billboard Hot 100 hit for PM Dawn in 1991 as “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” and a Top 10 single as “You” on the US Billboard Hot 100 for R&B artist Lloyd featuring Lil Wayne in 2006. It has also been covered by The Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, Rui da Silva and Paul Anka and other artists. "True" is featured in the movies Pixels, Sausage Party, Sixteen Candles, Charlie’s Angels,[97] Crazy Stupid Love, Hot Tub Time Machine, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, 50 First Dates [98] and The Wedding Singer sung by Steve Buscemi's character.[99] It has featured on TV shows like Ashes to Ashes.

Because they weren't getting paid for digital royalties, PM Dawn rerecorded Set Adrift and put it on digital platforms like Spotify and Pandora. It's absolutely horrific. The lead singer's soft, smooth voice is gone. The 2 group members harmonize like fighting cats who are both dying. I had to delete it from my playlist because it's unlistenable. It sucks that they can't get paid for the original, but my goodness...stay away from the rerecorded version.

They are the originators. Recently I saw an interview with the singer and he was asked about all of the times the song has been sampled. He loves it. He's one of the artists who instantly understood that sampling wasn't theft it was an homage, a nod, to the original. Neil Peart from Rush said that he never got tired of playing their song Tom Sawyer because it was so challenging and he always tried to play it perfectly it never quite could. Similarly, this singer said he has never gotten tired of playing this song live because 1) the crowd would tear the house down if they didn't play it, and 2) It's a difficult song for him to sing and it's always a challenge. 80's Brit pop stayed closer to pop's soul roots while American pop attach the more to the rock and roll side of its origins. Actual sold music as American but the Brits have always done the offshoots better than American bands.

One of the problems with sampling bits of songs in new songs is that the original artists' names often get lost to time, or people think the original singers borrowed of the borrowers instead of vice-versa. It was fun to share the groove with you; this is good music.

This song was so popular in the 80’s they played it on all the R&B Soul stations, we hade what they call “ The Quiet Storm” where they just played love songs and slow grooves after 12 midnight and this was played every night several times. Slow songs and love songs(or laid back grooves ) is what’s BEEN missing in music after the 90’s, the only song like this to hear today is Leave The Door Open, which is a great start, but y’all need more,is old schoolers want y’all to feel what we felt, just like you felt in this video when you heard it.
