What was missing from this video was any discussion of natural sources of spermidine, such as wheat germ, peas, and aged cheese. Yes, there are supplements out there in the marketplace, but the amount of spermidine that they supply per dollar is far less than some of these natural sources. In fact, most of the supplements that I have looked at are derived from wheat germ. If people simply consumed more foods high in Spermadine, they wouldn’t need expensive supplements, and could spend that money on other supplements that cannot be obtained from our food.

Totally agree. Unfortunately, many scientists, and podcasters, have monetary interest in pills.

Hi thanks for your comment. Yes, I should have included natural sources, though I don't think any of our guests have discussed this in detail.

I tried lentil (soup) for awhile it seemed to give me the "runs" so I switch to much more expensive Spermidine pills.

I think the guest that stated 6 milligrams of spermidine is a "high dose" might have made an error. Dr. Greger's new book "How Not to Age" has some good info on spermidine. For example, Dr. Greger reports that 1 cup of soy milk contains 3.8 milligrams of spermidine and wheat germ contains 2.5 milligrams per tablespoon. These are amounts similar to that provided by the very expensive capsules sold by DoNotAge and Renue by Science. I use these companies for other products, like NMN and Apigenin, but wheat germ and soy milk might be better sources for spermidine.

Hi Jim, thanks for sharing. I do see that in some studies a dose of 15mg.

This is an interesting format. Maybe you should create a "Nutrient" series on your channel... I am trying to remember if you covered the difference between a supplement triggering autophagy and a supplement that only interacts with cells where autophagy has been triggered but the triggering mechanism is gummed up so the supplement un-gums the triggering mechanism. Obviously the latter would be really exciting. I think a couple people have hinted at this and the SASP discussions are closely related (senomorphic), but I am not remembering a direct discussion.

So what if you trigger autophagy in coronary vessels and that triggers flow obstruction when the senescent cells slough off into the coronary lumens?

Doesn’t this also include broccoli sprouts?

Hi David, thanks for the question. Yes, there are natural sources of spermidine and broccoli sprouts is one of them.

Thanks Richard. I’m pretty much addicted to your KZitem channel and thanks for putting such great material out there. Your channel goes great with black coffee first thing in the morning.

Dr Yurth did not say what is a low dose of spermidine.

You shouldn't mash up serious people with Dr. Yurth.
