I've watched countless spin cast videos, and yet I bookmarked this one, because it is clear that Pappy was a master at his craft! There were several special touches that he alone did, and I can tell he had an inventive mind and a practical way of approaching his work. (I especially liked his hook shank holding feature, the wire pins through the hook eyes for ease of placement, and his variety of aluminum runner patterns - details that reflect real thought and craftsmanship.) I thank you, Dennis, for preserving Ray's expertise on video - his legacy in this spin cast field will live on, and we who wish to learn will benefit. (PS - I live in Federal Way, if you ever want to go out for coffee, let me know.)

Do you think Ray would teach somebody to build a spin cast mold if they came to Mt. Vernon? I just got a spin cast machine and would like to make my own molds.

Pappy passed away two years ago, that is why I though making the video of Pappy building a mold would help others, like yourself in the future.

Hey Dennis, I have a question for you. Could you send me the Company name where Ray gets his molds from. We had bought 12 molds off a Gentleman years ago. And while watching your video I think the Gentleman we bought them from was also called Ray. I had contacted him about 6 years ago seeing if he could make us another 12 or so but the person I was talking to stated that he no longer sold his product to Canadian Firms. So I left it at that. I am also getting up there in years but would like to try and make some molds for my Spincaster. I purchased a vulcanizing unit last year, but the only place I could get molds was for Conquest. I sort of like the idea of using 2 color molds. As you stated they would be a little cheaper. I hope you see this note and can send me an address and the name of the company that makes them. Thanks for your time. Gene

Pappy took a piece of aluminum stock and cut out the gate. He has made a number of them for different hook numbers.
