An interview with James McAvoy came across my feed yesterday and I didn't know he was SCOTTISH?! Agreed! I honestly never felt that McAvoy was portraying a real person… Whether that’s a failure of the script or the directing, I don’t know. But because of that, I didn’t care about his character at all. I just wish Taylor-Joy had had a richer character to play, because I found her on-screen moments riveting. She was also responsible for the only two moments of true suspense I experienced: The moment when McAvoy’s character first gets into the car with the girls, and the moment at the very end when the officer tells her her uncle is coming for her.

Just to be clear, NO ONE knew that this film was set in the same world as Unbreakable when it came out. There was nothing in the trailers, pre-release interviews, etc about it. It was a total surprise to everyone. I remember sitting in the theater watching the mid-credits scene, wondering what this was about. I had no idea that this would be setting up another movie so I just thought this would be some final twist that would end this story. When the customers started talking about Mr. Glass I was like "Wait, they're talking about something I recognize, but what is it?" Then I heard Bruce Willis before I saw him and I remember yelling "Oh shit!" in the theater. I think I was the only one that reacted that way so I'm not sure how many other people there remembered (or had seen) Unbreakable. And of course, as soon as I saw Bruce I recognized the Unbreakable music playing there. Still one of my favorite "Oh shit!" moments while watching a movie that I never expected but gave me so much joy for a continuation of this story that I never expected to continue past this movie.

When I saw Split in the theater, I didn’t pick up on the music cue for the final scene (it had been several years since I’d seen Unbreakable), but the David Dunn reveal blew me away. I remember saying out loud “no way!”, but no one else in the theater seemed to get the importance of the scene. Also, Unbreakable features a quick appearance by Kevin Wendell Crumb and his mother. In the scene where David is working the football game, a woman with a little boy brush past him and David hears a young boy cry out something like “Don’t hurt me!”

Hello! Another piece of media that covers D.I.D. Now, this movie is nowhere near as good in the regard of representing that disorder as Moon Knight is, but there is a few things that do ring true. A D.I.D. system may have one or more alters that hold the collective trauma and pain to protect the others in the system and sometimes this causes them to lash out at themselves and others and makes them aggressive towards even the other members of the system. Those alters are referred to as persecutors or even demons if the alter views themselves that way. My husband had a persecutor, her name was Alexis. She held all of the systems self hatred and rage from the years of abuse and unfortunately for a few years that made her an EXTREMELY VOLATILE person to handle. Would act violently to their own body, to me, and to others. Luckily by now theyve worked through their trauma and now stands as one of the systems protectors. Just goes to show, as far gone as the Horde is by the end of the film, they didnt have to be this way. Also, as everyone else has said, McAvoy is absolutely brilliant in this.

I think it's really misleading for people to call this a sequel to Unbreakable. It's set in the same world, but it isn't until the third movie that they're really brought together. M. Night takes big swings. Sometimes they pay off (i.e. "The Sixth Sense" or "Unbreakable"); sometimes... they do not (i.e. "The Village" or "The Last Airbender"). If you want to see him indulging all of his worst directorial (and screenwriting) impulses, I recommend "The Happening." I advise going into the film knowing nothing (or as little as possible) about it. The marketing around the film played heavily on the mystery of the piece, built up an unreal amount of hype around the film, and ultimately led to... let's say "overwhelming dissatisfaction" in what was delivered. On the plus side, it's very funny... even though it's not supposed to be.

Besides the stellar performance by McAvoy, my favorite part of this movie is the concept of mind over matter. The strong belief of each personality that actually changed the biology for each personality. “The mind makes it real.” - The Matrix This concept has been a recurring theory in Hollywood for awhile. My earliest memory of it was on The Six Million Dollar Man. Albeit there was an older one I saw later, Forbidden Planet. Maybe that’s where the idea for super-humans came from or “..if you have the faith of a mustard seed, you can tell that mountain to throw itself into the sea and it will obey.” Love ya KL! ✌️😊💕

McAvoy and Anya did such an amazing job in this movie. I read somewhere that McAvoy developed 40-odd different, distinct characters/accents during filming, but they cut it down to 23 for the files as the number was just getting too unwieldy, then cut down further to the 6-7 you actually see on screen. As you mentioned, the fact that you can tell who's in control just by a switch in facial expressions is insanely impressive. Such a quality actor! The other thing about going into this without knowing it's linked to unbreakable is that the Beast character sounds like a myth and there's no reason to believe we'll actually see them, but being that it's set in the same world means of course that some people possessing "powers" is feasible. Anyway, great reaction as always. Catch you for the next one

When I saw u were watching SPLIT, I knew I had to watch your reaction. I really like this movie. James McAvoy is incredible in this. Anya Taylor-Joy is also phenomenal. I watched SPLIT for 2 reasons, Anya who I already had seen in MORGAN & THE VVITCH, & that it was a psychological thriller about DID, known in my day as a psych student as Multiple Personality Disorder. The fact that it was an M. Night Shyamalan film wasn't a contributing factor because w/his movies it's hit or miss. I did not know that it was connected to UNBREAKABLE until I saw the end of the movie. U know, the age of the personality has nothing to do w/how long the personality has been around. It's more like that personality keeps the innocence of that age & more than likely split then. I actually met someone w/25 different personalities while attending community college.. She had come to our Women Studies class a couple of times to give lectures on Satanic Cults to which her estranged family belonged & Surviving Severe Abuse that caused her personality to not just split, but splinter into 25 pieces. She told us that since her personality split so young that she actually didn't know which of her many personalities was her core personality. She talked about the dificulties in her everyday life, & was grateful for her husband, whom we also met. He seemed very patient & kind. The reason he was there w/her was because she absolutely could not drive herself. It was a precaution in case any of her other personalities decided to pop up. She gave us an example, well, actually her husband gave the example. He said that on the way to the lecture his wife's 5 yr old personality saw a sign of the city name Rancho Cucamonga, & then proceeded to have a giggling fit @ the name. He said it took a bit for that personality to step back so that was why they were 20mins late. When she finished w/her lecture that evening, she asked our class whether/not we thought only one personality gave the talk. I mumbled, "No." She glanced around the room. "Did someone say something?" My classmate/friend next to me nudged me. I raised my hand. "I did. I said 'No.' " "Ok, how many personalities do u think came forward during this lecture tonight?" "Maybe 4." I said. She looked @ me oddly for a couple of seconds, & then said. "Good guess, but it was actually 5." I shrugged my shoulders in an "O well!" gesture. She then began taking questions. My classmate next to me whispered, "How did u know? Cause, I honestly couldn't tell." I sighed & then answered. "There was a change in her face each time, her voice @ least once & the way she moved." My classmate replied. "Wow! U noticed a lot." " Well, I was looking @ her while she was talking." My friend/classmate replied. "So was I, but I didn't notice anything." Right then, the teacher called out the end of class, thank goodness. Yeah, just thought I'd share my encounter w/someone w/DID.😊 I really liked your reaction & commentary to SPLIT. Eagerly awaiting your next Hunger Games installment.😊

I would imagine they are pro-dominant in order to protect whatever else is going on.... Hence the development of a certain personality....
