Reminds me of the time the Fleet pulled in before entering the Mediterranean. I was a young Naval Aircrewman stationed in Rota, Spain attached to a Recon Squadron and I happened to be walking through Maintenance Control after my shift had ended. There were a few F-14 pilots from the visiting Aircraft Carrier Wing talking it up with our P-3 & A-3 guys. As I was talking with a Senior Chief in M/C the Senior mentioned that one of the pilots was offering to take an enlisted guy up. All I can say is I appreciate the pilot explaining to me exactly what maneuvers he was going to pull while we were taxing on the flight line. As we took of and got airborne the pilot pulled the stick and we went straight up. Um did I almost faint? Yes!! Throw up? Maybe! It was the most memorable rides I’ve ever taken on an aircraft. From the ground my shipmates said as we climbed in altitude sparks shot out one of the engines like if a bird strike had happened. If so I never noticed as that F-14 and it’s thrust never missed a beat! Military Pilots, Fighter Pilots & if I may be more specific U.S. Navy Fighter Pilots are definitely a different breed and both mentally and physically tough. Especially the ones that land on aircraft carriers. ✌🏽🇺🇸🙏

Why not setup a lottery system where periodically mechanics get chosen, at random, to take the first ride up in any aircraft they work on? This would use the Biblical principle of “Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain” - I e. let the worker enjoy some fruits from his labor. Further, how much more motivated would you be¹ to ensure you did a repair *correctly* if you had a chance of going up in it the next time it flies? ____________ ¹ I don’t mean to imply any mechanics do anything but top notch work. I assume many (most?) take great pride in their work and would do no better with such motivation. But still… especially in peace time / when there’s not so much pressure that a mechanic can’t be spared for an occasional ride... why not? You can always adjust the lottery parameters to fit the bigger picture.

You don’t know squat! Crew chiefs on choppers during the VN war flew almost every mission as a door gunner. Crew chiefs on the jets that fly in the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels fly in the back seat when traveling to their next location and many times they put on a little demonstration show for those stationed there upon arrival providing fuel remaining allows. Not all flying organizations are the same but there are some fighter outfits that offer incentive flights for ‘Crew Chief of the month or quarter’. Man, I can tell you from experience, that this is the ride of a lifetime!! I was a crew chief for the F-15 when I served and got a ride with my pilot. It was nothing short of amazing and I was even given the stick for a few minutes! The pilot will ensure you a great flight and a vertical takeoff if weather permits, but they also tried to make you tap out. All the G's and spinning can make you sick and have you pulling 100% oxygen..lol Loved it though!

I live right north of Luke AFB in arizona and i would always see that air training and education command symbol when passing near, i’ve seen their jets do crazy fast turns and spins like this and it always had me in awe at the beauty. i’m glad you posted this video so i can see what the pilots see, it’s beautiful.

If I could live again this piloting these incredible machines would be my singular focus. It’s incredible that the limiting factor of capabilities is the human body. I was driving by from Montgomery towards Selma and had the opportunity to experience two jets(idk what they were specifically) take off with afterburners. It was so incredibly loud. It was a complete assault on the senses. Then you see them disappear through the cloud layer faster than your car can get to highway speed. Such an incredible chance experience.

And he never puked. Superb job for his 1st time or 1 of 1st. Im pretty sure he still lost some vision, nothing you can do about that. Even the pilots lose vision sometimes but you are still conscious so that's when you ease off the Gs b4 you really do fully black out.
