Be sure to check out Manito Park (conservatory, Japanese garden, pond, rose garden, lilac garden, Duncan garden). Also, Old European for the best breakfast/brunch. Other places to check out in Eastern Washington: Palouse Falls, Steptoe Butte, Gardner Caves in Crawford State Park (Boundary Dam too if they start tours again). A little further away in Idaho, check out the bald eagles at Higgins Point in Couer d'Alene (seasonal in the winter...be sure to stop by Meltz when in CdA... Best "grilled cheese" sandwiches in the country), Hiawatha Bike Trail and Wallace, Idaho (in the summer).

'When you go visit a place, you see everything. But, when you live there, you hardly go to anything.' We do have lots of unique little places in Spokane. Maybe take a look at the newspaper or The Inlander? See an event that you've never been to? Go and check it out. That's how I started with attending science fiction conventions back in the mid-1970s, lol.

I totally understand that. I didn’t appreciate it until high school.. and some of my friends hate it. It is definitely a place you have to leave when you graduate to avoid staying for the rest of your life. But there’s a lot of things I appreciate about it.. locals are really nostalgic, you can get most places, depending on where you live under 15 minutes, and it’s very walkable, imo.

You should drive up 395 to Colville and Kettle Falls and ten you can get onto SR20 and head to Seattle through the North Cascades. There is (usually) a Corn maze in Colville at this time, a great BBQ place in Kettle (Backyard BBQ) and then the wonderful scenic drive across SR20 that goes past Diablo Lake and Gorge Dam and can take you all the way to I-5.

Don't forget the River Park Square mall and the endless skywalks, Manito Park (a must see particularly the Japanese garden and rose garden), The Japanese Mukogawa U.S. Campus, Cat Tails, the famous Tomato Street, The Northwest Seed and Pet on Sprague Ave., Dicks Hamburgers, The Museum with the tour of the old mansion, Cliff Drive (amazing view of city), The Davenport Hotel (The original famous building), and the gondola with views of the falls. On a side note, Coeur 'd Alene Id is only 20 minutes east, across the Idaho state line and they have the (MUST SEE) C'dA Resort and the Lake. Also during the summer there's Silverwood 30 minutes north of C'dA. Lastly and as a side note: Spokane is a great place to visit but after 22 years of living in that hell I finally got out. So go visit, don't move there. It's a great place to live if you are a medical pro as there are plenty of medical jobs but the rest of the job market is abysmal at best, most of the city is dirty, crime ridden, has a large supply of homeless, drugs, and the cost of living has skyrocketed in recent years with the income not rising to meet the demand. Get in, have fun and get out while you can.

@@templeguard1276 There are some neighborhoods you just don't go to especially at night but other than that, it's way safer than Lightfoot's Chicago. It has higher than average petty crime and even murders but on a much lower scale than nasty Chicago. If you can afford a house over $350k (in today's market) and know the places to avoid, you can live pretty safely. As beautiful as it is, it's super dirty and loads of bums, meth heads and more than it's fair share of nuts. But then again after living in a fast paced city for 22 years, I've been blessed to be out of it and into a peaceful, small, more affordable, and much safer environment. I'll take the Mayberry small town livin' any day. =)

I live in Seattle, was born here in the early 50's, it was a great place to grow up and I loved it here. Now, I hate Seattle, crime everywhere, I've been robbed of over $100,000 of my personal possessions in the past seven years, homeless everywhere, total lawlessness, the police have disappeared and the liberal courts let the man who stole $70,000 of my personal possessions out after three months in jail, THREE MONTHS!! I now hate Seattle and I'm retiring late in life, pretty soon and moving to either Spokane or Idaho, looking for a conservative environment with like minded people. I honestly had Spokane low on my list but after your video I'm going to check it out when I do my walk about after I retire to find my final home. The other day while driving downtown we watched a homeless man shoot up, we then had a road rage incident with a man on the freeway. He was flashing gang signs. Spokane is a shit hole. People like to make it out like it’s something special. I’ve lived here for 20 years, it’s only getting worse. The drivers here are the worst and the infrastructure isn’t growing enough for the expanding population. Move somewhere else.

I think for the most part the drug problems are exaggerated -- I personally don't witness it on a day-to-day basis -- BUT I will say that the top crime I've seen issues with is car thievery and break-ins. We finally made it to Mary Lou's Milk Bottle last night. Only took us 5 months of living here. LOL (Combined it with a showing of The Breakfast Club at Garland movie theater a half block away.) Observations: The huckleberry milkshake is indeed delicious. Only had huckleberries once before, a couple weeks before in Wallace, Idaho. Ordered it with the burger for dinner. Recommendation: get the extra patty upgrade for a couple bucks more. It is worth it. Indeed the people in Spokane do seem to be nicer than most other places. We were standing on the corner taking a selfie and some random person in a car stopped, rolled down the window, and yelled, "You two are SO cute." In Los Angeles or Las Vegas, it would not have been such a friendly comment.

I was born here in Spokane but mainly grew up in southern California. We moved back in 1970, and I have loved living in Spokane ever since. There are so many unique places all over the city, and we even thank our bus drivers when we get off. Most of the people here in Spokane are friendly and happy to help a lost visitor. Be sure to check out The Davenport Hotel, which was restored in 2002. It is historic and absolutely gorgeous.

It's too bad one of the best places to eat closed. Rocky Rococo's. It was a great pizza/pasta place with a nice all you can eat salad bar. The place was small with cozy seating. It had a converted beautiful old telephone booth. The restaurant used to be a movie theater long ago and still had what I believe to be Fred and Ginger dancing painted on a wall from when it was still a theater. It was a shame that this place that has been around for 35 years is now gone. I miss the food there so much. I'm sure many people miss that place. It was one of the best places to go in Spokane.

Also the milk bottle has been there forever.. it’s in the movie Benny and Joon with Johnny Depp. And check out the Garland theater! I practically grew up there.
