54 years old. I haven't ridden in 35 years. Got back into it. Rode rice burners, mostly dirt and soft-choppers, in my youth (Kawasaki/Suzuki). Kids are grown up and it was time to ride again. I couldn't find a bike that satisfied my itch. I had a regular EVO Sportster for about 3 months, but it didn't MOVE. Test drove a Fat Bob in the hopes it performed like it sounded...Meh. Sound without fury is hollow. Got on a Sportster S. It had me at the first throttle pull. I love the speed. I love the look. I love the exhaust and the rear swing arm. Its my bike. Not a Harley fan and own the brand no loyalty...until now. Its a sweet ride, and one day I'll pass the machine on to my grandkids. Once its paid off, the next addition to my collection is a Pan America. The Revolution Max is a great engine, especially once you get the new software upgrade.

Brian, great to hear from you and welcome to the Sportster S family. I agree the engine is SWEET. it's basically a reincarnation of the V-rod engine with the newest technology and in a lighter bike. be careful, have fun and enjoy.

Dang, thought I'd be the only 61-year old Sportster S rider. Well you all just helped convince me to pull the trigger. Sorry to see my VROD go, but on paper this thing looks like improvements all around.

I've had software issues with mine but I think they have that worked out finally. The Sportster S is faster than either one of my vrods were stock, but that's due mostly to the 150lb weight difference. The vrods were actually more comfortable to ride but I'm slowly getting this one to my liking. Thanks for checking in. Enjoy

hi Dana, Marcus here, Rochester MN, I'll be 67 in November. I've had my Sportster S (RH1250S) since last November (my birthday present to myself). Holding it up is not a problem, and going fast isn't a problem either! I love the tech on this bike, as well the Revolution Max platform is fabulous. Don't get me wrong, I still love my antique (2003) Heritage Springer Softail (FLTSTSI) , but for completely different purposes. Everywhere I go (coffee shop, county road pump 'n munch, etc) I meet the young crowd and they are super pumped about the Sportster S. But, it seems its a bit outside their price point. I have tricked mine out with authentic HD parts and accessories, Sundowner saddle, wind-screen, tail bag and rain guard, tank lock, engine guards, and of course my bike bell. The Sportster S is my go-to bike, and frankly, I ride the Sporster S more than I drive my automobile. Ride safe, see ya on the road marcus

Good hearing from you. I would rather be on the bike than in the car any day but, when I do drive my car it is a 2003 Corvette Z06, so that's fun also. Enjoy and be safe.

I'm 64 and live in New Zealand. I love these new Harley Revolution engines the Vrod won me over years ago they have a big following here and I think the new sportster line up will be a big hit in time.

I rode Vrods for 11 years and drag raced at Gainesville( street bike track champion 3 years) I would probably still have one if they didn't quit production. I also love Sportsters so this is a good reincarnation of the Revolution motor. They have to get the bugs out of the software.

55 from Australia. First bike after 30year break, last bike was a tom cruise special :0. Love the bike although my back argues at times. Upgraded to the sundowner seat, its a lot better than the stocky. Its still a bit rough so i might try a corbyn seat in the new year. Also looking at YSS front spring cartridges to softn up the front a little also.

Good to hear from you. I agree, the front could soften some as well as a bit more travel in the rear. Keep us up to date if you find any good changes.

@@Danasmith2816 google yss suspension, they do front and rear systems for the sportster s , the specs show a lot more adjustability, i spoke to a sales rep and they say it will soften thing up, i alao asked a ebay store who sell the systems who said the same thing as long as they are installed.properly. its a good chunk of money though, about 3k aud. I would buy tomorrow if i knew for sure but i will do a little more research b4 spending the coin. If anything changea i will sing out.. yss also have a youtube channel fyi.

Hey Dana, I'm 24 from Illinois and got my Sportster S after an accident on my last bike which was a Kawasaki. I wanted to get onto an American bike but grew up on high revving engines of which were mostly 2-stroke. This boiled it down to the Indian Scout Bobber or the Sportster S (The nightster wasn't announced yet). Obviously I ended up ordering a Sportster S because it really is a unique motorcycle in the way it looks, and rides. Unfortunately I've had the same issues you have plus some... I've owned my sportster S for 4 months and its spent half of that time sitting at the dealership waiting on a new engine, and repairing pinched wiring. Hell, the morning after I bought it, the battery was dead... Every time i park it, its connected to the battery tender now. Hopefully as the years go by, the Rev Max platform gets more reliable, but Harley corporate has been so incredibly helpful through my time owning this bike.

I’m 67 and just traded in my 17 Breakout on one , before that I had Two Roadglides in a row since 06 and a new Electra-Glide in 95 . And a few misc. Harleys over the years. My bikes keep getting lighter , at this rate I might be on a Segway next time . I love the nimbleness a lightness of the Sportster S . I still have my 54 Pan if I want to hear a conventional Harley . I love fast stuff also , Like you but mine is a 2020 Mustang GT 5.0 6spd. Ma.

Hi Dana, how does the sportster s perform against the vrod in your opinion?
@Danasmith2816
Жыл бұрын
In Stock trim the Sportster S is faster than either of my V-rods, mainly due to power to weight ratio. the 2006 Nightrod that I drag raced was 1130cc, 115hp and about 670lbs. My 2013 Nightrod was 1250cc, about the same weight and similar HP. However, the V-rods were more comfortable to ride, less reach, lower seating, longer wheel base. But, I said STOCK. When i raced, my first vrod it had a 50hp shot of dry Nitrous and dynoed at 150hp to the back tire. it ran 10.56 in the 1/4 mile and I had a best speed of 134.6 in the 1/4 mile. The 2013 Nightrod had cams, custom intake and exhaust and screaming eagle pro super tuner and dynoed at 137 1/2 hp to the back tire. My vrods were fast and fun. If Harley still made them i would still have one, but this is definitley the next best thing.

Sorry to hear you're having these problems but I can relate. My bike spent over a month at the dealership for software issues. Seems to be working well now. It's a shame they don't do a better R&D job with a bike that is pretty expensive. Hope they get you up and running soon. let us know
