The location feature was useless for everyone that lives in small countries, like if you listen even a bit of your country's music spotify will show you that you have the same taste as people from your country's capital

you're absolutely right about how cool it would be if more people shout-outed their favourite songs, albums and artists at the end of the year. i do that every year and it's so much better than sharing how The Glee Cast is my top artist each year...

Another thing for the top songs - if you listen to music primarily by playing albums, all the songs in the top 5 end up being the same album. I guess I wish they also had a top albums ranking.

I would have loved it if you went into more detail about how offline listening muddies your stats, because I didn't care that much about my wrapped, but now after you said this throwaway sentence I feel like I could have gotten an entirely different wrapped if I didn't only open Spotify with Internet to download stuff and spend 90% of my time on there offline
@joshuabushman7

Maybe check your time Spotify time listened. Cause in that case it could be wayyyyy off. If you’re completely offline then it most likely won’t record a thing. (Keep in mind my only source for this is like 2 Reddit posts)

As for like 3 years now, my top artist has been They Might Be Giants with me in the top 0.01% of listeners. Not only is this a sick flex to have in a band whose fandom is all about one-upping each other on obsession, I also want to genuinely recommend this band. It's not that my music taste is limited, or I listen to nothing else, but there's a reason this band, who has existed for 30 years, and made like dozens of varyingly experimental rock albums is the one I keep coming back to. They didn't even put anything out this year. But their music is just so vast and varied, and their lyrics are just so so interesting. There is always something there, some really resonant topic that I myself don't even understand what is happening when I listen to it, but it makes me so interested in unearthing what it is they are hiding behind the silly song about visiting a town of manatees or about how dying is like being a product that hasn't been bought (I literally just pressed shuffle twice to get these). What I want to say is, I can only recommend people check out They Might Be Giants. They have so much more to offer than the Istanbul not Constantinople song

finding a song in august and having it be my top song listen to can be fun bc that means I found a really great and fun song. i think i actually did that with group therapy one year, but fell off from listening to them cuz i bought merch and they never sent it lmfaoooooo. but to your ending point of "aw man how did that end up there", this year I got ariana grande as one of my top listened to artist even though i started listening to only 2 songs closer to august. and i only started listening to them cuz I hyperfocused on doja cat and it's the songs she's featured on! it sucks cuz i don't *enjoy* ariana grande or her music, but it gave her the credit instead of doja and megan thee stallion. like, yeah it's her song but i'm not even here for her, just the rap girlies that also do pop.
@justherewatching30

i listen to many a genres, but I mostly have pop and neo-soul... but pop is one of those genres that have such a broad definition. cuz i listen to pop rock, bubblegum pop, hyperpop, rap that's poppy (i.e. doja cat), r&b that's poppy or has pop influence. like, if a person can use "bright" to describe the music, it just might be pop or have pop elements imo. i also didn't know there was this much vitriol for AJR. I haven't listened to any of their newer stuff, but I can stream all the way through the Neotheater album. it's literally "mainstream" pop music made for theater kids imo.

Love the videos and your video style. And I agree with almost everything, but I like the genres, even though I think you're right, it's impossible to know what genres really exist or anything, I do like it. They could also add a "main genres" or whatever to group them.

AJR is actually such a widely misrepresented band BECAUSE ALL OF THEIR SONGS THAT GET POPULAR ARE THE BAD ONES Genuine recommendation, listen to their song Turning Out Pt ii. Shit made me CRY. 80% of their new music is hot garbage but they have a couple genuinely good songs that have just completely flown under the radar for no apparent reason
