Matthew Sleider we covered everything for spraying in roughly 3 man hours, floors, windows, and switches. We also had the factor of painting all surfaces, trim, walls and ceilings so we didn’t have any other surfaces to cover. So sometimes it can be justified to just break out the brush sounds like you managed to knock it out in a decent time if you were the only 1 doing the work.

It looks like you're spraying a light coat here. Are you spraying 2 coats of Advance in this video? If so, how long do you wait before spraying the second coat? What type of prep work, if any, do you do between the finish coats? On a second coat do you lay it on a little heavier? Is this satin or semi-gloss?
@dubbled3063
4 жыл бұрын
221b it is a light coat, with advance paint I’ve found it likes to sag in odd places when you apply heavy coats. So I spray 2 light coats with minimal prep in between, usually on minor fixes needed like caulk blow outs and pinholes, maybe a little sanding and vacuuming to keep baseboards smooth. We sprayed the second coat the next day, of course we were spraying an entire main level of a condo so we had more trim to run, and the finish is Satin, we like satin because it doesn’t highlight imperfections as much as semigloss and touches up easily.
@HOLMES-B221

@@dubbled3063 Thanks for the reply. I sprayed Advance, 2 coats on a door, horizontal not upright, and the next day wet sanded lightly with 220 and 320, then sprayed the second coat. I noticed some pinholes in certain parts, but they're only noticeable to me and I'm okay with the finish. I used a 310 FFT, Graco x5, cranked all the way up because it was the only way I could get rid of the tails. I agree, Advance is somewhat temperamental in that it sags sometimes. I'm not a painter by trade, but one thing I learned from you was the importance of the seal that comes with the FFLP tip, which I didn't use on the door because it didn't seem to improve the finish beyond the FFT. But now that I know the seal is necessary, I'm going to try the FFLP on some trim work. Also, I got a Titan gauge for my Graco sprayer so I'll know what pressure I'm running.

After spraying first coat I noticed roughness on base and parts of casing from overspray. I assume this is fallout from spraying the crown. Any advise to avoid this? Would it be best to spray everything but the crown and them mask off to spray crown? Appreciate any advise.

Did you make sure to change your seal that came with the tip? The seal makes the flow of paint a lot less being it’s a smaller hole than your normal tips. @painterken2542

Sounds like popular problem..I do walls baseboard trim jambs same day... with cieling...start with rolling walls..start at point far away from front door..end walls put equipment and paint outside..bring in spray rig(electric)..put in bathroom close to toilet/tub..( for water and cleaning)..rinse water goes in toilet... ANYWAY.. INSTEAD OF TAPE ON WALLS.. simply use spray shield..on top part of baseboard...to protect floor the trick is to use the same tin that facia on the front of most building have..10 inch wide with 90 degree bend that goes up about 1/2 inch...old sideing also works ..you want 2 pieces 8ft long..3 pieces 4ft long...in addition you will need a piece of carpet 4ft wide..10 ft.long rolled up you can carry easy if done right...so you take these things put them all into a garbage can with wheels...take them to the same place where you began painting walls..( that place will be dry by the time you begin trim and you will end trim with front door...) You will also need aluminum foil and 2 rolls of tape in your trash can..along with 2 drop cloths...the reason for trash can with wheels is it alows you to get all tools where you need them in 1TRIP.. important if you want all done 1DAY..the reason for carpet is to wipe shields off..wipeing any other way ( drywall knife/ rag n water method) not fast enough..wipe shield 1x for every 3x useage..as you go room to room..plan path to end at front door... large pieces of facia/sideing for larger walls..door frames..for corners you simply take cardboard box flap/ cardboard shield...fold it to 90 degrees..use it to protect walls when shooting corners...then door frame corner..use aluminum foil for protection of door knobs..then 1 time around with tape..takes approximately 1 second to apply foil..1 sec for tape...take off time is same..WAIT TILL LAST THING TO TAKE IT OFF...THERES REASON....btw... spray tip I use is 515....and it's HIGH END ... So now you've gotten your base/ doors and jambs sprayed..your cielings remain and your getting wore out..good thing you got all those spray shields..there light...put them at your starting point ( your garbage can should be there if your doing it right...put your carpet there also...your almost done...go to bathroom..take a break...flush spray rig ...put your cieling paint in...go room x room shield for corners is cardboard..now when you reach the front door if you've tried this.. OBVIOUSLY YOU SCREWED UP...this method allows for that... when you was told to put everything at the front door...( Wall paint with brush and roller..any touch up paint from trim..brush and roller...at this point you get all unneeded supplies in the truck/van..you will need touch up supplies... normal touch up time for me is less than 30 min...you get better with time...your time ALWAYS will be spent in prep... quality don't have to be compromise..if windows open slightly..and heat turned up to 77.. humidity is greatly reduced..dry overspray no issues...it's always advisable to have on hand a cheap squeegee mop... If you just practiced starting away from front door....will seem opposite of house painting in ALOT of ways and it is...but highly productive...I took production theory..mixed with industrial sq footage method...added high end painting and apartment painting styles...

Sorry i do have this question, what about the walls that are getting paint from the skirting board one and it supposed to be a different emulsion for the walls, is that skirting boart pInt wont come through when the walls are painted. I know that first you paint the door frames and skirting board with wood paint water based and then the walls with emulsion paint. So my question is if you overlap the wall with this wood paint whats gone a happen when you spraying the walls with emulsion? Thank you very much in advance for the answer 🙏🏻
@dubbled3063
3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what type of products you are using but we use a water reducible alkyd on our trim, wall paint we use is not generally emulsion unless we are painting bathroom walls to help prevent water staining from hot showers. We always sand our overspray from trim before painting walls for proper bonding, I’ve never had an issue with the overspray pattern showing through the walls. However I have seen some guys spray their trim with lacquer and the lacquer sealed the drywall to the point where the overspray would show through the wall paint, so depending on your product there is a potential, if we are uncertain of any product we always test an area first before doing the whole project and dealing with a catastrophe.
