check drum oil level - if its overfilled it doesnt hit nearly as hard, doesnt compact nearly as well as it was intended to do, the excenter shaft from the vibratory function hits oil if overfilled reducing the rotor speed and vibration strenght at the same time the oil increases drum weight and that additional mass reduces movement speed and accelerations, if overfilled you have hydraulic leaking into the drum , that needs to be adressed - if hydraulic motor is worn out check pumps with same specs , rebuilding or original parts often cost like 4 times as much as a same pressure, flow and rotation speed specked hydromotor. if drum is just overfilled draining the oil to the level screw would fix the problem - id do that on a trailer with the drum slightly sticking over the edge , makes it easier to put a huge tray or steel drum barrel under the trailer than get small buckets under the drum

Hi Chris, a couple of hundred years ago in the U.K. long before KZitem, a guy called Lancelot Capability Brown created many of the greatest Estate parks and gardens in the U.K., he didn’t have dozers, excavators and graders, he certainly couldn’t pop out at lunch and buy a roller… horses, mules and a group of tough labourers were his only option… the magnificent landscapes that You create can certainly be compared with his. This current project simply has to be one of your finest creations. I salute you Sir.

17:06 compaction looks meager , maybe the drum is overfilled with hydraulic oil from either the vibro motor or drive motor leaking along the shaft usually the drums contain some gear oil for splash lubricating the huge bearings - it dont hit that hard and has worse wear if that gear oil gets diluted by hydraulic oil - perhaps just dismout both motors and check it - it dont take rocket science and no whole work day either - a bad weather maintainance job

The transformation is wonderful. It took a lot of equipment, hours, and expertise. Good luck with the roller, I had a experience with a roller before. The bearings and seals on the shaft kept going out. Finally, I gave up and sold it at auction. Since you don't use it very often, it should satisfy your needs.

I had an exact roller as that and it is a Raygo....a good machine, just too small for my projects. I later got a larger model CAT and sold the 433 in an auction. I don't know the depth or width you're trying to achieve with the road aggregate but I'm guessing about 70-75ft per load. Makes for a long day.

We occasionally have motorgraders for sale by the municipalities in here, it is an important part of their maintenance fleet since that is the best type of equipment to take care of the icy roads in the winter. A Caterpillar 140G just went for about 35,000$. There used to be 5-6 vendors manufacturing those in the Nordics, now it is down to 1, a company called Veekmas.

As Chris says, it's hard to come by a good grader for a reasonable price, and the same with rollers, so I'm pretty sure John, his uncle, isn't interested in selling his - and why sell if he can rent it out to Chris, and bringing in some money when he don't use it himself.

Hey Chris: Thanks for all the videos. Just wanted to throw a couple of suggestions your way: you’ve been looking for a motor grader without much luck. Have you looked at a LeeBoy 685? While they aren’t as fancy as some of the others, the Pavo g company I worked for has one that they have been using since the mid 1980’s and it’s still going strong. And they are a North Carolina company. Also for your trailer, find you an old conveyer belt (like from a crusher) and screw a couple of pieces to your ramp on the trailer. It does wonders for keeping things from sliding.

That roller is nice. I'd say the hour meter is correct, the leaks look age and limited use related more than anything. It's certainly in better condition than some of the newer machines I've moved. I'm not talking about the rental stuff, lets face it, there is an expectation a rental will get destroyed before it's hit 500 hours.
