Awesome work brother! Your attention to detail and precision is 2nd to none. Would you happen to know if all sprinter head units would have the rear out available to tap into as you did. I have a 2023 2500 Cargo AWD. By default I only have the front speakers as well. Tapping the front into my amp, getting the rear signal is fader works would be nice. Anyhow, thanks for the great video.

Hey @80spurple thanks for stopping by and the compliments it really means a lot to us!! Yes all sprinters headunits have those outputs for a cargo van if you didn't order EP7 you'll have to tap in with the pins like I did. If you ordered your van with EP7 there an additional dongle under the drivers seat that you can tap into for rear speakers. The only problem when you tap in like I did without the EP7 is you don't have rear fader enabled, it's a SW thing that your local dealer has to enable once you have the rear speaker inputs hooked up. Hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions!

Yeah this one was the most time consuming project on the van so far for sure. Having never done an audio system like this before I didn’t realize how much effort it was to even do the simple things like running all the audio cables. You definitely end up contorting your body into some weird shapes trying to feed things up behind the dash 😅. Anyways thanks again for the support, we really appreciate it!

Thank you! Yes that will be included in our Part 2 of the install! Curious what DSP you are looking at. I think we are going to go with a MiniDSP with Dirac Live! Hey @chunkerbranigen5825 it's a great thought and thanks for taking the time to post this here! I know @DIYVan is making these diyvan.com/collections/sprinter-products/products/pair-of-2019-to-present-sprinter-vs30-cab-door-speaker-adapter-for-6-5-speaker already so not looking to step on their toes. The only thing is their solution is limited to a maximum 2.25" speaker depth. Since I wanted this bigger door speakers (3-1/16" depth) and 3-way component system I had to make these. I have made a few sets as a one off for others looking to install these exact speakers BTW! That is an option if you reach out to me by email hello at farrframeworks dot com. I've also shared the files for a $10.00 donation (takes some time to develop this stuff) if you have access to a router or mill of your own. Thanks again for the feedback, let me know if this helps 🙂

Hey friend. Yeah, it's easy the pin numbers are actually called out int he Mercedes BEG www.mbvans.com/en/upfitter/tech-info/beg page 307 for VS30 vans. If you don't have a cargo van you should already have the wires for the rear speakers too. If not you'll have to add the pins.

The reverse editing worked great to get the point across for the removal process. I’ll plug your channel on my van build videos @clarityoffgrid that we’re just getting started on. I’m afraid I haven’t got your machine shop equipment or expertise so compared to yours mine will look like a Jack job but I do have the carpentry skills and tools so will be manufacturing from that. BTW which heater do you have installed? You’re ok I guess having to remove the amp to service the heater?

Hey @mattkramer6512 thanks for stopping by and glad to hear it helped you out and thanks so much for the offer to plug! I'll make sure to sub to your channel and follow along as well! Everyone has their own skills and resources and it's just so great to see people just make the van their own space! I have an Espar D2 under the seat there and I was able to cut back the amp mount far enough that I think I can service it without taking it off, but time will tell when I hit that first service interval. When I do I'll try to remember to come back here and post! Thanks again.

Hope you don't have diesel heater issues. That's quite a pita to get to. Especially in the cold.
@moonrakerdesign
8 ай бұрын
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. It's actually not a PITA to get to the heater though. The video angle doesn't do a good job showing the perspective and how much clearance is actually there but with the cut back of the marine board and pushing the amp all the way to the center of the van I have somewhat tight but full access to the heater for service. One of the reasons why I choose this shallower amp. The fact that you still have to take off the passengers seat and everything is more of a PITA in my opinion. So if you are thinking this way you might want to consider and entirely different location for heater mounting. For example in an accessible cabinet somewhere in the rear of the van.

Hi Todd - did you add a separate subwoofer and do something with the center channel? I just disconnected my center channel and added a small sub under the seat and the factory system is halfway bearable! Thinking of upgrading to an Alpine 907 specific speaker system + amp which is only available in Europe.
@moonrakerdesign

Hey. I haven’t added the sub yet that’s going in the wall behind the drivers seat. I ended up disconnecting the center speaker because it’s just so bad. The biggest improvement were definitely the woofers in the doors. Added a lot of nicer lows and mids. When you take out the factory speakers you can see why. They are party city quality 🤣

Awesome video! I am upgrading my 20221 VS30 audio right now and you have some really good tips. Looking forward to the next video and hoping that you detail how you are connecting your amp to the factory head unit. I purchased an Alpine R2 A60F which has high level inputs but not sure if this is the best method. Thinking I may add a Fix-86 dsp and feed the amps from there. Curious if you have a better solution or dsp to make the system better. Cheers!
@moonrakerdesign
11 ай бұрын
Hey @ese8641 thanks for stopping by and glad the video was helpful even though we are using different HW! Right now I have the speaker level high straight from the head unit to the amp. It actually sounds pretty good like this and way way better than the factory speakers. We can turn it up and it has good sound and clarity. However, you can tell they've modified the signals for the factory speakers especially on certain songs the tweeters get a little out of control. So as you mentioned the next step on the audio system is to put in a DSP. I'm looking at 3 options and we are saving my pennies accordingly. - Option 1: Fix-86 to a TWK-88 - even if I can flatten the signal I still think because of the van is such a big open space I'm going to need the extra tune-ability of the TWK-88 - Option 2: MiniDSP with Dirac Live. I know nothing about tuning so the idea of DL getting me close to where I need to be automatically sounds awesome. This also will allow us to hook up a Media Master in the back of the van to run as our "parked" solution since it has so many configurable ins and outs. - Option 3: I've been seriously considering upgrading to an amp with DSP already built in. They are expensive but it might be a cleaning and more compact solution overall. I've been looking at the AudioControl Products as well as the higher end JL VXI amps. Anyways, I hope this helps. I'm still planning this out long term, but overall the system as is works for us short term while I spend time on some other parts of the van build. So the next video on the audio system might come a bit later!
