I'm curious about a point someone raised, is mold a problem on the canvas pop up?
@PlayingwithSticks
3 жыл бұрын
Mold is a problem on all canvas used in trailers if not maintain properly. You can check out our videos we take out my fathers pop-up camper that is almost 50 years old. We used it growing up extensively, it has no mold and almost looks new. It really is about ensuring you don’t store the camper when the canvas is wet. So the pop-up camper this is kind of annoying because when you get home you have to pop it up again to let it dry out if it rained the day you collapsed camp. But with a little meerkat pop that up just takes seconds.

The thing I like about the MeerKat is the compact size combined with component and build quality. I want a small camper, but I have found the “smaller” versions are usually the lowest priced “value” campers that cut so many quality and feature corners they are just junk for anyone except the most casual of users. The MeerKat has done a good job with good quality components in a nice compact size. That price buys a few other quality standup campers in that size range (just a few), but with slightly different characteristics. So then the question is which attributes are the most important.
@PlayingwithSticks
3 жыл бұрын
That is what excited me most about this trip. When I went down there I was able to view the corner cutting trailers as well. Trim pieces were hiding poorly sealed seems, messy caulk all over. But the Meerkat...Every one I inspected which was quite a few coming through the shop all were in immaculate condition. And no giant trim pieces hiding potential areas of concern for leaks. I also really liked that they used a 1 piece fiberglass roof which was a feature I forgot to add to the video.

Isn't it neat! If there was a 16 foot version of this that allowed us to keep the bed down all day May and I would really consider getting one. We don't need a bathroom, or a kitchen, or even a sink. There are those times ( yeah, yeah, weather forcasts have come a long way ) where you don't want to be trapped in small, little teardrop trailer and you don't want to go home either, or you're on the road on a long, traveling trip when you're stuck in a deluge of rain for three or four days in a row, stuck inside, getting claustrophobic. Sleeping in something bigger also makes you feel more secure. Looks like a perfect size and weight for many novices who want to go out and get away easily, without buying a bigger car, s.u.v., or truck/spend a lot more money to pull and store a trailer.Without looking, does this company offer a heavier, four-season model with molded fiberglass, and a beefed up suspension to go with the added weight. Something more like a Scamp?

@@luvyesmusici4886 Yes, the Scamp is a great fit for most of us. The only sad part is we will not get it until next year! I had been considering getting a Cassita or Scamp but my husband can’t stand up in them and that didn’t seem fair. We are not yet retired so we will likely only be able to get out on weekends and for a week or so at a time. For now we will likely stay at KOA, visit friends. Around the country. or other such places. Thanks for letting us know that air conditioning was an option as it does not show up on the website. They are installing a zero breeze unit. I have this trailer and love it. My wife and I are actually putting up for sale our 2016. We have out grown it. We bought this trailer because we only can tow 1500 pounds. The other reason was because we were able to fit it in are garage. It really is a nice trailer that was built in San Diego CA. We like the fact you don’t need a large vehicle. The cushions are super comfortable. At night we set down a 22” tv and watch Netflix with out jackey or sure power if available. This trailer has a lot the Benifits of a teardrop. With some similarities to a Scamp. Everywhere we go it turns heads. If you look at the price of some teardrops this is right in line.

As for the build quality we have not really had any issues with it. This is our first trailer so I do not have a basis of comparison.. We did have light drizzle with no leaks. We actually own one too! They talked us into it when we went to look at A-liners 😆 but now that our kids are a little bigger, it isn’t quite the right fit (since we don’t love the side tent option). That said, the quality is what drew us to it, and we have zero complaints. It’s well built and you’d be hard pressed to find a better option for 1-2 people. Plus I love that it’s so light and I can maneuver it by hand! When I take the kiddos out solo, it’s darn near perfect. (We use a separate potty tent and don’t cook inside of it, for anyone wondering) Also. The ‘no tanks’ is definitely a plus when we’re leaving the campground, zooming past the 10+ trailers waiting in line for the dump station! 😉

@PlayingwithSticks

Yes, the rectangle shape would be beneficial. As for deeper most of these trailers have pretty shallow sinks. I assume this is because of the small water storage tanks they are subliminally pushing us to use less water. But, why not throw in a deeper sink and let us decide how much water to use.

Roof leaks are a major issue for all trailers. Heat and cold ruins the seals. They need to be frequently checked and maintained. Once water damage starts, it's a nightmare. Even a new trailer needs immediate attention. Inspect it closely before purchase because it's probably been exposed, without maintenance, for a while. If the interior smells like air freshener or bleach, suspect a leak and mold. If they're using fans also.

Thanks for this great overview Drew! Do they have crankup trailers similar to those truck bed campers that retract when on the road? Little Guy is okay with you customizing the trailer however you like, even if that means removing the logo. One family made theirs silver with no logo. Thank you! Sean did an excellent job. I filmed the walk-through the day before and got back to the hotel and realized my audio was unusable. I said Sean, I get on a plane today I’m gonna need you to do this walk-through so we can get it done and he stepped right up and did the job!

For the feature set, that trailer shouldn't be more than 10k for the starting price, 12k at most. But when compared to the teardrop from the same company with all the amenities outside, I can see where the 23k comes from. Considering that there are others in a similar weight class (but not height) with an AC and proper running water for at minimum 8k less, I'm left wondering What exactly is in these that make it worth the mark up?

Looks very much like an Eriba Touring copy to me. They've been around for decades in Europe. Except for the build quality that seems less.

And for the price of this one, you can get a very nice Eriba. This model looks really simple and cheap.

I was really excited when I heard that Eriba was coming to America. They failed to deliver on the promise. It has to fit in aside garage, quality please, cushions, wheels, tires, windows and cabinets - there is plenty of crap in the market, do it right and for pity’s sake, put the TV somewhere you can see it with out twisting your head sideways!
