just my two cents: 1) I believe Shatner and Nimoy were Jewish (so I wonder if they were uncomfortable in Nazi uniforms) 2) the fashion designer Hugo Boss made uniforms for the Nazis (that's why they look so good) 3) the helmets are missing the "red, black and white" shield (German national colors pre-1946) 4) the girl is in a Hitler Youth uniform thus should have a horizontal white band on her arm emblem. I don't usually watch Star Trek (not a Trekkie) but always liked this episode.

Some of the Nazi actors in Hogan's Heroes were not only Jewish, but were camp survivors. The way they saw it, by making a mockery of Nazism, it wouldn't be as likely to be believed in seriously on as wide of a scale. The way it's being portrayed in Star Trek, it's not portraying Nazis in a positive light at all, so I'm sure they were fine with it.

For the most part, the SS/SA uniforms at least, were reused from the 1941 war film The Underground, as well as Confessions of a Nazi Spy(1939), so that’s why they look the way they do. Mel Brooks ridiculing Hitler in the Producers is a form of Jewish revenge on the nazis. So is Spielberg making them the incompetent thugs in many Indiana Jones movies. And of course then there's Schindler's List and so on. I wonder if Shatner and Nimoy thought likewise during the filming of this episode.

At least the outfitter got McCoy's uniform right, with the insignia of a Standartenfuhrer (Colonel), and his arm patch indicates he's part of the SS Medical Korps. Kirk wrongly identifies him as a GESTAPO member, and generally, GESTAPO personnel wore plainclothes, not the black Allegemeine-SS uniform made by Hugo Boss that Kirk and Spock wear, nor the Heer pattern "Feldgrau" that McCoy wears (which would be correct if he were attached to a Waffen-SS unit, likely a division at his rank, else, McCoy would wear his lab coat and office attire like other physicians.)
