This is soooo real. I am constantly in and out of the hospital. And it's true... even if your Dr calls ahead you STILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS!!! And all the rest is true. Especially the entitlement issues. But the way he says It makes me laugh so hard. I wonder if he has ever considered stand-up comedy. There are many people who try to make a living by that who aren't nearly as funny. Thank you Steve for making this time a little better.

When I was working as a volunteer with an ambulance service, we were called up to the football grounds where one of the players had had a heart attack and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital (for his families sake) he was around 25 from memory. He didn't smoke, do drugs (that we know of) and was just a normal fit country guy. I don't know what caused it, I think they put it down to some hereditary heart issue but it was really sad. In a town of 450 people, it was hard whenever we had code 0s

Unless you were seriously injured or dying, then you are most likely going to have a long wait in the ER. When I got ran over by a car, I didn’t have to wait. They wheeled me right off the ambulance and straight into a CT scan for a possible spinal cord injury because I, truthfully, said that my lower back didn’t hurt, which is where the car had hit me. When I fractured my left foot, one of the ER Nurses gave me a choice: 1) Sit in the waiting room for 4 hours to sit in a bed for 2 more hours or 2) Go to Urgent Care with the high possibility that it will be faster. I decided to go to Urgent Care. Roughly 4 hours later, I was back home. That was with 90 minutes in the Urgent Care waiting room and 2.5 hours with the Doctor taking X-rays and everything else.

On children freaking out. As a Nanny many years ago, I had to take a 4 year old to the E.R. when she cut her head open. Blood everywhere. Her Mother showed up to be her usual helpful self , as in not so much. She was carrying on, being a pain in my ass when... This little voice comes from the bed where the nurse is stitching her up. " Mommy will you please shut it, you aren't bleeding. " I had to excuse myself. I had a very sudden need to get some air. That girl is still legend in my book.

A friend's son dropped dead of a heart attack when he was 20, no one knew he had a condition. My best friend had a heart attack at 17, but she was downing Red Bull and espressos like no tomorrow. My brother experienced a minor heart attack in his 30s, also from excessive energy drinks. I went into the ER for chest pains when I was 14, wasn't a heart attack, but turns out I have a heart murmur. I frequently get palpitations, sometimes really bad. Both of my parents have heart disease, my dad had a quintuple bypass, and his dad had a pace makers, while my mom's side has genetic heart defects, so I have to keep going into the ER when I get chest pain. It's annoying, it's always nothing, but one day that caution will save my life.

To be honest, I went to the ER not only to get a covid test, but also because when I tried to sleep, my arms would go numb as if i had peripheral neuropathy and it felt like my head was being wrapped in 40 balloons that were being inflated at the same time, and I was extremely cold all the time (even when in a very VERY hot shower or even outside in 96 degree weather) I had to take a bath or shower 4 times a day just to feel warm... Kinda made me worried I was about to have a stroke. These symptoms started 3 days before I was tested positive, lasted for weeks and because of them, I couldnt sleep at all... this went on for about 3 weeks with only maybe 2-4 hours a sleep every week.

I end up at the ER for having seizures more times than I would like. Some times I get chest pains purely from having CPR done so many times and that causes the chest pains and heart palpitations which is unfortunate because I am only 20 years old.

My grandpa had a heart attack at 16, didn't smoke or anything at that time and era. He had several of them until he passed away at 56 years of age. He had a genetic heart disease. I was born with an extra flap on one of my arteries, so I have testing every year for it. I also suffer from anemia. At one point my iron was at a 4, in which they were amazed I was even alive, and had 3 pints of blood pumped into me. The nurse was squeezing the bag to get the blood in quicker. I was put on monitors and was told I had a heart attack. I was about to turn 40. So when they say that, that could result in someone's life. I went into the er because I didn't feel right. I thought I had the worst flu in the world. I couldn't walk up the stairs, I crawled up them in small spurts. I did have influenza B. The dr said I shouldn't have felt so exhausted and decided to do blood work, twice. So never just assume. Take a moment and listen to your patients.

ER…. I cut my ankle quite badly. It really didn’t need stitches because it was also quite deep. I did the best I could close it I keep my foot and ankle from moving so the gap would stop opening. I got to the ER. It was a terrible night. When I got there, it was just getting dark, it was winter, so it had to been around five or 6 o’clock (17:00-18:00). The room was filling fast with very sick and injured people of all ages. I was put in a wheelchair so I did not have to move my ankle while I waited. Doctors and nurses passed me as they round to take care of more serious people. Ambulances came filled with true emergencies. I did not demand to be seen as time passed, because I felt that my ankle was a long way from my heart, it was no longer bleeding, and I was not in a life-threatening situation. The sun came up. And I moved over towards the doors so I could enjoy the warmth. One of the doctors who talk to me when I first got there, I was leaving. His shift was over. He looked at me and stopped…. And asked me why I was still there. I told him that I was waiting to be seen. He couldn’t believe that I’ve been there all night and yet waiting. I told him that my ankle only needed stitches, and there was so many seriously ill and people with life-threatening injuries that needed the emergency far more than I. Which of my wheelchair and pushing me towards a room, calling a nurse over. He said that he was going to take care of me right then and there, even though he was off duty. When he uncovered it, it had started to fester, because it had not been cleaned. Of course, the body was starting to connect the tissues as well. I have the best care that I’ve ever had in the ER during that hour. It took a Fire remember correctly around six stitches. And it was quite deep because I had to open that completely to get the dirt out. As it turned out, it was looked into why I had not been seen. And administrator came in while I was still being worked on. My name had never been called, I came in early in the evening, and it was because of so many emergencies, and the roster had filled so quickly …. Plus, because I never said anything to bring note to my name, it got lost and missed. Another words there was no really good excuse.

I had a heart attack at the young age of 16. Three years ago, I was just having a fun time, hanging out at school, and it was during our free period. I was just chatting with some friends when my chest really hurt. I stopped talking, walking and paying attention. I dropped to my knees, clutching my chest. My friends asked if I was okay and, because my dad would often have heart attacks, I told them to call 911. They asked why and I told them "I'm having a heart attack" they said I was overreacting and laughed it off. I was having trouble breathing and they just walked away. Luckily, a teacher saw what was happening and came over with another teacher and called 911. The other teacher started talking to me, keeping me awake. I was taken to the ER, and diagnosed with a genetic disease. Coincidentally, the same one my dad had! Muscular dystrophy and a heart prolapse. A year later, I had surgery for a pacemaker and I'm no longer friends with the people who said I was overreacting.

I'm 38 and have had 8 heart attacks. I was also in 3rd degree heart block at 17 and 19. 19 because I tore a hole in my stomach, esophagus and heart after a severe reaction to the yellow fever vaccine. At 32 I developed pandysautonomia, POTs, and gastric dumping syndrome. The next year I began alternating to gastroparesis and have spent more than 3 of the past 5 years in the hospital. My first heart attack was because my potassium was 1.9 and I went into a funky rthym. My adoptive dad had his heart attack at 43 so I got him beat

I always figure if I have to wait, I'm in better shape than I probably feel. Every time I've been taken straight back to a bed, I've been in serious trouble. Personal favorite (or, least favorite): Had a minor procedure done (nerve block). Anesthesiologist asked me how I felt. Eh, chest hurts a little but I've never had this done before, so I don't know how I'm supposed to feel. X-rays showed that I'm fine. I go home. Start having a little trouble breathing, and my husband wants me to go to the ER. They said I'm fine, what's the ER going to do. Finally went in the next morning to shut my husband up. ER doc says, well, if this is a nerve block they missed. Left lung 80% collapsed. Yeah three day hospital stay with a tube sticking out of my side. Things like that are why you shouldn't mind waiting. I knew I might be in trouble when the triage nurse took me straight back to a bed.

i went to the er one time because my medication stopped working/bad reaction. I was taking it for a while than I felt really bad. I dont know why some meds cause a while to have a bad reaction.
