RIGHT ON! "Songs In The Key Of Life" was released shortly after my fifth birthday. One Sunday morning, my father all but insisted I watch "Wonderama" with him. I couldn't STAND "Wonderama," what with that flat-out inane theme song centered around the line, "Kids are people, too, wack-a-doo, wack-a-doo, wack-a-doo..." "Sesame Street" had it ALL OVER "Wonderama," no ifs, ands, buts, or combinations thereof. Anyway, on that one particular Sunday, "Wonderama" was on all day. They were holding a dance contest, to which they kept playing "Sir Duke" over and over. So, to be fair, the one TV show I most hated introduced me to the very Stevie Wonder song I most love.

One small detail about this is how absolutely in sync all of these musicians are. Two drummers, a busy and melodic bass line, and a lot of rhythm breaks and they DIDN'T push the tempo faster! Any very talented band could do this song, but it's absolutely magic how no one pushed the song faster and just kept it in the groove the whole time!
@dciccantelli
2 жыл бұрын
Like most pros, the drummers (and other members) most likely have a click track being piped into their in-ear monitors to help keep everyone on the same tempo. It's pretty much an industry standard for live performance nowadays. No reflection on anyone's ability. They're definitely great players. But in a setting that large, it's almost a necessity in order to hear yourself & each other.

Everybody sing, da-da, da-da Music is a world within itself With a language we all understand With an equal opportunity For all to sing, dance and clap their hands Just because a record has a groove Don't make it hit the groove But you can tell by the dance that let's you in When the people start to move They can feel it all over They can feel it all over, people They can feel it all over They can feel it all over, people, go! Yeah Music knows it is and always will Be one of the things that life just won't quit But here are some of music's pioneers That time will not allow us to forget, no For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo And the king of all, Sir Duke And with a voice like Ella's ringing out There's no way the band can lose You can feel it all over You can feel it all over, people You can feel it all over You can feel it all over, people You can feel it all over You can feel it all over now, people Can't you feel it all over? Everybody all over, people, go!

Stevie is such a talent that he and his backups sound better live even though his recordings are great also.
