I have that fs80 or fs90 can't remember off hand but I bought a new carb for like $25 runs like new, it's been about 5yrs. That rebuild kit is what 10-15 dollars and you cross ur fingers it works after you rebuild it. Lol

That expensive fuel in the cans saved me pulling and cleaning two carbs on a Husqvarna mower and a Craftsman chipper. Bought the pair for $60 USD told fuel had been left in over the winter. Both tanks were dry upon pickup. Split a can of fuel between the two and tried to start. No dice but tried again about 3 days later and both started right up! All the additives and stabilizers ate right through the gummed up crud. Both are still running great and thriving on ethanol fuel I might add. Remember NASCAR was founded on bootleggers running their product (100% ethanol) in their cars. It was hard on old rubber seals but modern synthetic seals are fine. I believe it's Brazil exports most of it's oil and the country fuels their cars on locally produced ethanol. Sorry but I keep hearing more and more bashing of ethanol recently and my lifelong observation is just simply the opposite! We ran 10% ethanol in my f14, Dad's f20 and Grandpa's H. Never had fuel issues!

Water in the fuel. Not using it will cause parts to get stiff. Have carb cleaner handy. Sprits then re run some. Use it burn a tank at least. When in doubt pour out run dry. As it begins to stall use carb choke to get as much of the fuel out of the system. Then mix fresh but burn premium fuel mix your oil with a carb clean stuff. Fuel lines right down to the filter. Like a two stroke outboard. If your fuel connector hose is removable do so after each use run it dry use carb to enriching fuel as it runs dry add choke a little till it catches run it all dry rest will evaporate. Then next time your carb will be clean jets stay clear. Watching people put their boats in the water you can tell who did maintenance and who added fresh gas over old. They crank and crank. Then high rev a cold engine. Just a little bit of love can make the difference between having fun or going to a marine fix it shop for a carb tear down. Store with a fuel stabilizer and full tanks. This mix stuff preserves itself but add a bit to be safe. Clean plugs lower unit drain and re fill. My father stores the shaft down on weed eaters outboards down in the run position due to water from last run is inside cooling ports. Those that don’t well blew out freeze plugs. And get to get a new block. Same with lawn equipment. Cold temps congealed oil. Keep in a heated garage. If your boat is stored outside water from rain or frost gets into things it shouldn’t. Then who blames the equipment not the operator. Mowers need covers if space isn’t available. Come spring can’t do yard work can’t go to the river for the grandkids grand pa didn’t do the winter prep. Battery tenders let the boat sit in the slip ah I’ll get to it later.

Also change the fuel lines and filter! Just did that in my Stihl. Runs like new and yes 10% ethanol! I don't even know where I'd find non-ethanol in Iowa except that expensive gas in the can stuff.

The worst part is. - putting the lifter spring in and then getting the lifter and needle back in. I always put the end of the spring in some grease, so it will stay in place when I put the lifter back in. I also put some grease on the lifter pin, so it will stay in the lifter. I drop the needle in it’s hole and then hook it into the lifter and then put the lifter on the spring and its pin in its slot. Then I screw in the screw that holds the lifter pin. I do not clean off the grease because the gas going through the carb will was it off in time. Using carb or break cleaner to remove it could wash off the vitonic coating on the needle. The grease also helps to keep the spring from going flying when you push the lifter down on it.

If cleaning the carb and changing the diaphram did not fix the problem. Check the small screen in the muffler. I have had trouble with mine stihl trimmer almost every year with the screen plugging up and just soaked in some fuel and gently scrubbed with a small wire brush fixed the issue right away.

Thanks for your time Simon PS I was going to buy a new one but maybe I will try what you're doing here
