Twenty Five would be my call on bars for your 400 stihl, less chance of kick back. I have a 046 stihl that I use a 24" sughi harah light bar on that I really like. good watch

I ran my first Husky today. A 572xp and it was nice. I have always been a Stihl guy due to the proximity of a close dealership. I do believe the 400c will shock you if you have never ran one! The gentleman that ran it today that has the 572 and some other big Stihl saws was shocked. Stay time to the new vids….Appreciate ya watching 👊🏻

Hey Todd great video! I got a phone call today from a logging company that was close to my house and they told me I could have all the butt ends they cut off if I hauled them away!! Guess what I did? I got 2 tandem loads hauled home and they even loaded them for me. I've got about 10 more loads to get! Probably 30-40 cords still there! Stay cool

Exactly why I just went with a 25 light bar from the start! I have a Makita 6100 with a 20 incher for firewood and this 400 is nearly a full horse more than it is. I knew the longer bar would tame it down a shade and that’s exactly what it did. I believe the longer bar is a perfect match on the 400. Great info and fun video! I can tell you put in work for that firewood there! Later

I have never ran a 500i. I believe it would be amazing. I do believe if you have never ran a 400 you would be shocked. This magnesium piston makes this saw real quick. Hey Todd, so I just changed the bar on my 500i to a light weight (same size) I put a new blade on it too. It kicks back and jumps around WAY more than it did. It's probably a different pitch or something but it's almost scary now.

I gotta say I always run a sharp chain. I usually run the more aggressive super chisel on the 25” light bar. This was the safety chain on the 20” I’m not gonna lie this was a little scary😳 I really think it has a lot to do with the 20”being so much lighter at the tip of the bar plus increased chain speed. There’s only 3 more drive links so I really couldn’t tell any difference in power loss at all going to the 25”🤷♂️ Thanks for watching Steve👍🏻

Hey Todd, I know your pain with getting those trees off the hillsides. Maybe it was a good thing leaving the safety chain on for a trial with the 20" bar since it was kicking back. Busy time of the year for anyone with kids, sports and back to school is just around the corner.

Do you ever wish you got the 462? I’m trying to decide between the two.
@toddsoutsideagain
2 ай бұрын
Well at the time I got the 400c it had just hit the market in the states! I wanted to try it because of the low vibe and the magnesium piston making it very snappy. I had never considered the 462 because of the price difference. I paid $865 out the door for the 400 3 years ago! I am still very happy with the saw with no regrets! The choice between the two is kinda up to you. You will love both! You will have more grunt power with the 462 but it will be a little heavier. I guess it just depends on what you’re planning on cutting most. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👊🏻

@@toddsoutsideagain yeah now it’s like $1050 vs $1350. It’s more of a business write off for bigger saw. If anything, it’ll be used when clearing the lot for when we buy land and then eventually firewood. I have a pretty decent collection already including some ported 372’s, 044, 261, 550xp, and a ported 4910.

20 is a great size but we do get into some bigger stuff. We have the Ms 250 with an 18” bar and the Ms 261 with a 20” so 25” inch on the 400 helps us out on the big stuff. Thanks for watching Julian👍🏻

Nice job getting that bad boy off of the hill side safely! The 400C was definitely running strong, it looked a little jumpy when you had the bar all the way in the log. Talk to ya later-TC
@toddsoutsideagain
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tony it was a little jumpy for sure. As I said I only ran the 20 inch on it for maybe an hour before putting the 25 inch on it. I got to say I like the extra tip weight the 25 inch bar gives it and it also calms it down a little bit. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
@mikehughes2026

Hey Todd, putting the 20” back on, the saw runs to its full potential, like God( and the engineers at Stihl) intended, less drag, fewer teeth pulling through the cut. You can stand up and buck with the 25, but if you want to get it done fast, now you know to go with the shorter bar, letter’ rip and hang on! Take care
@toddsoutsideagain
2 жыл бұрын
Man I know what your saying Mike but this 400 is an absolute handful with the 20” on!! I really like the extra tip weight and less kick back the 25” gives. To tell you the truth though I really can’t tell it cutting much faster with a 20 than it does the 25 it just jumps around a whole lot more. Hey thanks for watching and commenting👍🏻
