Glad to see you still taking care of your dad’s tools. I hope my boys do the same. That 22oz Estwing is my favorite 🇺🇸

Any carpenter worth his pay knows you don't rely on a hammer to pull nails, and if you do have to pull one, you pull it sideways, not straight off the claw. Estwing hammers are the worst body killer I have ever tried. The hammer may last forever, but your body won't.

I got a the same 20oz estwing rip hammer like you get from your dad was my first estwing I've ever bought and I like it very much I also bought a 30oz estwing framing hammer it was my first framer but most time I use my voughan 23oz California framer withe the 18" wooden hatchedhandle I love it but on everyday hard use or for demo I will take my estwing 30oz

@topsaw that's it I'm from Germany and the hammers wich were used the most is a roofers hammer german pattern but I like the American version of hammer much more because I don't need the spike .. I got a lot of these hammers and the spike is very useful on the roof to maneuver beams on a crane you chopp it in and got the handle to maneuver it on the roof ... but this is only usefull on a roof... the small handle allso ain't my favorite I got these hammers from Picard and a Picard with wooden handle wich were not available anymore Is the same as with axes The one wich is great to chopp down huge trees isn't good for splitting and a slittingaxe isn't Sharp enough to fell a tree ... I think I got 10 axes and much more hammers but the 20oz straight claw Riphammer with the bluegrip is one of my favorite

With the stiletto, the trick I use to prevent the handle breaking, is by putting the hammer sideways and pivot it on the axis that goes from head through to the claw. It works great. And is less impact on your wrist too. That handle that broke first day is mostly bad luck in my opinion. They shouldn’t break that easily, clearly that was a defective handle.

Estwing is classic as well. It’s funny because both hammers you have there are always in my inventory. One for framing, and one for de-nailing and stripping forms etc 👍

Used an Estwing in framing. Arm, wrist shoulder killer. Can be bent if abused. Not a crow bar. Balance is mediocre. Good to have but not i your driving a lot of nails. Great for demo. I went to the vaughn 999 and used them forever. Careful in pulling nails. Replaced handles twice. Still have them . I love Estwing as they make them in my hometown.

I do formwork and I have been using the 28oz for 7 years now and I’ve never had an issue with my arm, let the hammer do the work not you.

I switched from a 30oz estwing blue grip to a 23oz Voughan California Framer with the 18" hatchedhandle I love it its a great hammer to pulling nails I use a 100cm nailbar much more pullpower for shure but I like wooden handles the most if they broke replace them and you are ready to go .... I'm from Germany and the most hammers wich were used here in construction are that what you can find in America as roofers hammer it got these spike on it instead of a double claw and a very small handle even my riphammer got a longer one most used model is the Picard nr 298 It got a steel pipe handle with a rubber grip but like I said I'm not a friend of this so I find a old model of a Picard hammer with the wooden handle it was brand new and they don't produce this hammers anymore but if you don't make roof work this hammers with the spike aren't the best I found so I swich to the American Framing hammers and I love them

Yes, why put a claw on that hammer if the wooden handle cannot take the stress. Is a 22 ounce hammer the heaviest they got ? Cause I would like to sink those nails in just a couple of hits.
@topsaw

No, I think they make heavier hammers as well

@@topsaw my friends bought 500 dollar hammers, stilletos I believe, but my wooden Estwing, actually the wooden roofing hatchet Estwing, hammered in 1200 sq foot of OSB into the rafters. 4" spiral nails. Absolutely love that hammer. Great video.
