This philosophy I live by everyday... however too much detachment can be dangerous you can stop caring about everything then you end up with no purpose.. so it’s about selecting what to care about and what’s most important to you. There has to be balance.
@thehandmedownbadboy950
4 жыл бұрын
You’ve got stoicism backwards if you care about nothing. That isn’t the philosophy. You don’t pick and choose what you “care” about, it’s your reaction to how things happen to you. If your boss fired you tomorrow, what kind of reaction do you think you’ll have? Some might have rage, majority would probably panic and think about how you’re going to afford shit and how or where your next job will be. What reaction do you think your boss will have? Maybe your boss wants to put you in your place, make you grovel, make you beg and plead for your job. Your reaction is stoic. You show an exterior of zen, you speak slow and with absolutes. You maybe ask why you’re being fired and then you listen, take your time to answer. You don’t decide not to care, because that yields you no results what so ever.

It's dangerous indeed. That's not true stoicism, as the other guy said. What you're describing is nihilism. Nihilism is believing in there being no purpose at all in life. Every time I find I'm getting too nihilistic, I notice I usually feel pretty sub-optimal. You HAVE to keep caring for SOMETHING, if you want to feel like you are truly alive. If the best REVENGE is living well, then seek the absolute worst possible revenge on anyone who has wronged you. I believe in stoicism, it's a good way to live your life if you don't have some ASS-HOLE FUCKING with you. After you have moved on and achieved a better position in life. Go back and seek out the people who made your life miserable. They deserve to be held accountable for what they did to you. Moreover, they know they have it coming. It's your duty to make life easier for the people who may have to deal with the ASSHOLE that made your life miserable. If more people exacted REVENGE, ASSHOLES would not be so common.

I couldn’t bring myself to watch that movie, as much as I love Denzel Washington, simply because my father is still serving a 30 to life sentence for something he didn’t do. It’s been 21 years and he finally got parole. I went through so many changes in my life during those years. Moreover, I learned how to appreciate life and freedom. I even became a bit obsessed with survival because it became essential that I remained alive and healthy when my father comes home. Especially because I am his only child. So many family members have passed on which is natural, but I do not want to leave this earth without enjoying the presence of my father in my life as well as in my children’s lives. It's up to the stoic to understand what is supreme in the universe and what is an illusion. Because of the virus, where I was renting, the upstairs of the house, the lady is elderly and has COPD and was scared of getting sick and dying so she asked me to stay somewhere else for a while. A friend that I have not hung out with in a few years offered for me to stay here. He has turned into a schizophrenic alcoholic with other drug use and it has been absolutely HORRIBLE! I did not know this when I took his offer to stay here. My work hours were cut in half and I have not been able to find anywhere else to rent. I kept telling and reminding myself that I have no attachments and no expectations to & from my current situation & I practiced exactly what you are talking about and just today things broke for me and I have a new job, a house to rent and other things in the works! Thank you for posting this and I hope my story encourages many other people. Being in the military you deal with a lot of stupid shit and it really got me into a rut mentally. It was only until recently that through listening to podcasts and a lot of self reflection that I realized that the way I was reacting to these obsticles was ruining my life. These obsticles that that were getting thrown at me were out of my control and I wasted so much energy on just hating life and just being infuriated daily from these stupid tasks. Eventually I realized that I could control the way I reacted and it completely changed my life. I also adopted this method from David Goggins in which he lives everyday of his life challenging himself and doing things that suck so that when the bullshit comes it doesnt bother you because you already make yourself miserable everyday. Sounds kinda crazy but it really works everyday I force myself to do some crazy ass workouts. I do these workouts at inconvinent times as well and it just really started to build up my discipline and completely changed my outlook on things. Now when im at work and stupid shit happens, everyone is miserable af im kind of just chillin like thats it? Because if you challenge yourself everyday and do shit you dont wanna do it almost feels as though nothing can stop you. Put your face in the fucking dirt and gind your ass off. Dont waste your time worrying about the shit you gotta do. You're only stressing yourself out and wasting time and energy. Stop looking for a way out instead divert all that energy into getting the work done.

In the Hindu scriptures this state is known as being a "Stithpragya". We all live in the sympathetic states with periods of anxiety and depression always . In Bhagwad Gita Krishna, the ancient hindu scripture, described the stithpragya, a state of mind as the state where both loss and gains, joy and sadness does not affect an individual. We must all actively strive towards the Stithpragya. In the Holy Gita, Lord Krishna taught Arjuna the process of maintaining equilibrium (Stith Pragya) in all situations. Lord Krishna exhorted Arjuna to repose his entire faith in Him. Krishna wanted Arjuna to play his role without worrying for the result of his actions. So, it is best to adjust with the circumstances when they do not seem favorable and wait for good times.

I worked in direct marketing and it taught me a lot of things but one fo the best things I got out of it was there’s no point in reacting to something you either are not in control of or is in the past. Example if I were to trip and fall There’s no point in me complaining about me falling after the fact because it already happened I can’t go back in time and I’m not going to let it ruin the rest of my day by thinking about it just move on. This has made me see life a lot differently and has definitely made it better I rarely let anything bother me because I use this logic.

"Greatness is coming", but at what cost? As someone who unknowingly trained myself to be indifferent, I will warn you of this: When you feel indifferent to the negative feelings: Sadness, Fear, Anger you also feel indifferent about the good feelings: Happiness, Excitement, Spontaniety. You numb yourself to people and experiences, you don't feel everything as fully as you should. "Indifferent" is just another word for shutting yourself down on the most basic human level of feeling your emotions. This is a great way to achieve greatness in the form of a career or a business, but it is also a singlehanded determiner to failing in your personal life with connecting with people and forming genuinely strong bonds with friendships, family, and romantic relationships.

I met the prosecutor who was charging Ruben Carter about 8 years ago in Lavalette NJ on a job at his summer house and of course I asked about the trial. And he said in real life it was way different then what the media the books and the Bob Dylan song made the trial out to be. He said he was GUILTY AS SIN. I'll never forget those words. I'm just repeating something said to me so dont be comin at my neck. I've just seen the movie.
@xman666soad

Echo Chambers and you don’t think the prosecutor is like everyone else? You know made a mistake? A prosecutor relies on evidence and the evidence is only as good and accurate and the police force. Considering this was 1960’s height of the civil rights movement, it’s easy to imagine the police force was filled with unsympathetic majority caucasian males, some of whom harbored more than just a mild racist temperament. Not saying the prosecutor didn’t believe he was guilty just saying it was a different time, very different time, I would not trust anyone’s memory, I would trust documents and assume someone is lying whether unintentional or intentional.
@xman666soad

Morpheus ! “The defense later raised questions about this evidence, as it was not logged with a property clerk until five days after the murders.” A lot of details that cast reasonable double on the suspects... Not saying they did it, not saying they didn’t do it. I’m saying I don’t trust prosecutors, I don’t trust law enforcement, especially when red flags like evidence not being logged until a week later or witness statements changing over short period of time (month) All they found on these guys were some ammo that matched the type that was used in the murders, no weapons, they didn’t determine that these 2 men were involved in a recent shooting (paraffin testing). Not sure how you can say that so assuredly, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt, you would make a shit prosecutor. Edit: police and prosecutors also believed an admitted felons witness statement that led to conviction. Idk why anyone would ever believe someone’s statement, particularly when the felon was on his way to commit a robbery, he admitted it himself and supposedly ran away when he saw 2 black guys come out of the Lafayette with guns... 🤔 Ummmm...huh? If it was a white superstar boxer, that dude would not have even seen the inside of a prison. Only because there’s too much of a reasonable doubt considering the only witness statement that can be partially believed to be true is from the admitted thief. The neighbor was on another floor and changed her description of the getaway vehicle. And the only other witness was shot in the face so his memory was impaired all he could say was “they were 2 black males” Sorry that’s not enough, in the eyes of the law, to convict someone of murder: having ammo, having a white care, being black... No one ever ID them by sight, no one.

@@xman666soad not for nothing man. Racism isnt something that is a part of my life fortunately. I honestly experience 0 racism and literally never see racism. Cancer is also something that's not apart of my life. I see people with cancer once in awhile. As I see black people once and awhile. I make the comparison because racism isnt even on the table for me. I hope this makes sense. It just flat out doesnt exist in my life. You can call me fortunate you can say whatever. But i looked at you're favorited videos and one was white males killing black males or something of that sort. I didnt watch it. Because I dont associate myself with that sort of behavior. Killing. I guess you do. And you like specific ones where whites kill blacks because it offers you a chance to speak your mind on the subject. That's just sad in my opinion and I'm sorry you feel you have to do that. I'm sorry racism is apart of your life. If you passed me on the street you would get a whatsup how are ya? Maybe even a hug if we get to talking. But would I get the same from you? Judging by your video selection I would think not. Now tell me....whose more racist? Given that your disciplines require a lot of self control, were there ever times where you felt temptation to go back to your old habits or giving up? Could you discuss the difficulties you've faced in adopting these practices and changing the trajectory of your life? I think it would be an interesting perspective to hear, and could give your viewers motivation to stick with disciplines when it is easy to slip back into old ways.
