Listening to Hackney Diamonds at least once a day, sometimes twice. It gets better everyday.

Completely agreed. It's like discovering a new favorite series on Netflix or something. Except it's the Stones!! I personally love the Black and Blue one because it has so much unknown stories.

Awesome watch!! Steve is an absolute legend. His videos have got me through a lot, and they’re such a great artifact. Steve FLIPSIDE is literally very important to The Rolling Stones legacy- as much as the band itself. The people like Steve that take the time to document, edit, research, and preserve this great music and the story of the music is absolutely key. I thought I was a huge Stones fan and knew it all, but what Steve puts together is mind-blowing. Thanks for all the work over the years Steve- what you do and have done, is a historical document like I’ve never seen for a band, let alone the best band the Rolling StoneS. Thanks for your service sir ✌️❤️

Good remarks about Mick Taylor at the beginning, Steve! Yeah yeah yeah, I know, MT left a long time ago and it's in the past, BUT it would've been awesome if he had a track on this album for sure!

I think Live by the Sword will grow on you guys it hit me straight away.I love the way Mick changes his vocal style for parts of the song. The ending is a great jam. Mess it up sounds like Start me Up in the verses a cool stone'sy riff and Miss You in the chorus , put together a great song. I would have liked to hear Taylor add a solo to the end of Keiths track. Great to see you guys together for this. Keep up the good work

Excellent commentary. I’m surprised to learn that the Stones shared writing credit with Watt. The band is, of course, notorious for never sharing writing credit - just ask Mick Taylor.

Hey guys. There was so much to take in and shed the previous stuff to fully be one with what was going on here. The contemporary production threw me a bit at first. However, I love a lot of the material. Yeah that's right... Andrew Watt did say that if you wanna know who was playing what, he mixed with on the left and Ronnie on the right 90% of the time. MIck must me in the middle. Though a lot of these songs were Mick's, Richards came up with Depending on You, Get Close, Drive Me Too Hard and Tell Me Straight. Sounds like Keith pushed for more guitars to Mess It Up and created a lot of cool riffs to make it more classic sounding - damn, he really lays into the main riff of Whole Wide World from that live performance of the club show gig. It's almost like a reverse Shattered riff. Oh man Live by The Sword is a total grower. The wife and I were drinking and playing pool with a mix of artists coming on. When it came on, the opening riff sounded like a Hendrix song and confused me. When it clicked, it was an amazing song to hear around the pool table on its own. Love it. Drive me too hard that reminds me of something from Keith's last solo album.

To me it’s not a Stones album, it’s a Mick solo album with Keith and Ronnie popping in here and there. But I’m not surprised, they’re old now and Charlie (the heart) is gone.

Yeah you could be right it does have that sound, but it is a Stones album , lyrically it is poor , but I don't think Jagger has lifted the lid on the loss of Charlie , and the suicide of his girlfriend , the closest is "Depending on You" and "Sweet sound of Heaven' i

Exactly my words on.previous posts. It is a pure Jagger album composition wise, voice mixed up front without many stones back ground passage and esp. lyrically wise, can t understand these guys don t get it. That said it is a hell of a Jagger album, as good as Wandering Spirit. I start really appreciating as such, as Jagger 2023 80 years old in an olympic state of creation, the man has sold his soul..

I am not keen on Live By The Sword and Mess It Up - i think they are the weakest tracks, but the rest of the songs are more impressive. It is a pity as those two are the songs Charlie (and on the latter song, Bill) appear. Angry is ok, but i didn't think it was too impressive as a first single. The rest are very impressive indeed. Andrew Watt has done a terrific job in pushing The Stones in the right direction, and many of the songs are of sufficient quality, I could never have seen them reaching in more recent decades. FlipSideCT is right about an acoustic album. Dreamy Skies and Depending On You work so well.

If brilliant Let It Bleed Between The Buttons, Aftermath, Beggars' Banquet are 10s, this is a 6.5. Love the Stones, but not much memorable since early 80s.

Between the buttons 10??😁 No one who claims to love the Stones claims that nothing has come along since the early eighties. What nonsense. There were no more five star albums but still a lot of great songs. If you missed them all, I just feel sorry for you.

Are we so hungry that we're going to dress up Hackney diamonds in the Emperor's new Clothes?. Lyrically, it must be the weakest album the Stones have ever put out… the most expressive lines being in the name of the album, “Hackney diamonds”. For a band that across the decades have penned “Under my thumb” , “Parachute women” , ,, “Shine a light” “Fool to cry” “Winter”…to name a few, the new song titles lack inspiration , and beforehand the listener knows there is little left to tell. There is a push and pull here Jagger trying too hard to reinvent the Stones and Richards trying to to steady the ship ,this then I believe is the Album that Jagger thinks the Stones should be making, and I am not sure how much Kieth brought to the table Though it seems to me that some of the songs are pretty old, some seem very new, those adding melodies and bridges that sit uncomfortably on the Stone’s mantlepiece For me two of the weakest songs on the Album are the post punk, “Bite my head off” (who give’s a monkey’s who is playing bass) , and “Get close “ the chorus is mediocracy personified, in fact there are a couple of tunes on here that may well be ugly sisters to one of Jaggers solo albums . There are older cousins like Driving me too hard ,which has a distinct flavour of “Tumbling dice” and “Dreamy Skies” ….the slow cousin of “Short and Curlies” (off “Its only rock and roll )“While Keith’s “tell it too me straight is as comfortable and comforting as your favourite old leather chair , as is Rolling Stones Blues There are highlights and gems that were worth waiting for like “Sweet sound of heaven ““Depending on you “, “live by the sword”, Dreamy Skies and “Angry” But also quite a lot of broken glass … It’s not the Album perhaps I was hoping for, more like the one I expected, and yet I keep finding my self humming all the tunes. All in all its probably the best album for a long long while and gets a firm seven and a half out of ten. I reckon most of these tunes were written independently of each other Side one Angry --8/10. Jagger Get close to you -- 6/10 Jagger /Richards Depending on you -- 9/10 Jagger Bite my head off --- 6/10 Jagger Whole wide world -- 8/10 Jagger Dreamy skies -- 8/10 Jagger/ Richards , beautiful slow sister of “Short and Curlies” Side two Mess it up -- 6/10 Jagger Live by the sword -- 7/10 Jagger / Richards (Charlies drums sound understated and subtle in the engine room ) Driving me too hard - - 7/10 Richards Tell me Straight -- 6/10 Richards Sweet Sound of Heaven -- 9/10 Jagger Rolling Stones Blues -- 7/10 Richards/Jagger

😮 Ronnie has always delivered great solos, especially in the last ten years. Listen to „Bite My Head Off“ again. Ronnie‘s Solo is killer. His slide/lap steel guitar parts are always gold for the ears. I wouldn't want to miss a second with him. How do you come to this strange statement?

@@mikelcory4065 not a fan of his , long story, probably over 40 years ago, wood made a public statement at a free concert in Hartford Connecticut, we were nothing but a bunch of stupid colonists, fuck them ! All because a friend asked Rod Stewart to let wood sing a song , just weeks before LESLIE WEST , and MOUNTAIN played the same venue , what a show , Mr West was great , Rory Gallagher also did a show at Colt Park , yes Rory was Irish, no wonder there is a problem with Ireland, and England ! I saw Zep twice at MSG , another great group from England, wood is no Jimmy Page !! And Zep loved us Colonialists!! I look at wood as a replacement for Mick Taylor , and sure is not as good as Mick Taylor, easiest thing …. hire Waddy from the X-Pensive Winos ! All around better than wood
