I am the same as you; however, the cold packs do help when the migraines start. I was in a car accident 10 years ago. I have a TBI. Cognitive issues, nerve damage, multiple disks in back & neck bulging or herniated, and many other issues but the migraines are one of the worst issues I have to deal with from the accident. In the beginning it was 24/7 for weeks. It'd go away for a day the come right back for weeks again. This went on for 5 years. No medication helped. Then I started getting botox shots. The migraines started becoming less frequent. Now I go from 6 weeks to 2 months migraine free, for the most part. When the migraines come they are not as severe. I don't know what yours are like but I thought I'd share what worked for me. Also, if I've has an active day when I start feeling my neck getting tight I will take half of a muscle relaxer and an anti-inflammatory. Put a little heat on my neck and this can usually halt a migraine.

I'm the opposite! I have to use heat first, then ice packs. Using the heat first seems to lessen the time it takes me to feel the effects of the ice.

Hi, please report back on whether this works. Fortunately, I don't have migraines anymore - I got them from sleeping on my stomach with my neck twisted to one side - but I still remember them as the worst illness I've ever had.

Ice packs help tremendously, I've been using them for years. Also, tell your friends if there migraines are severe, more then 15 days a month, they should see a neurologist. I get botox shots every 3 months. The results are like night and day.

Add me to the 77%! I've done this for years, and it almost always helps. For migraines, though, it also helps that I get auras. With the first shooting star, I'm grabbing medication. By the time the headache hits, the pills are already hitting my system. I'll also add that an ice pack on my neck helps me fall asleep when I'm having a tough time...not always, but enough to make it something I try if I've been tossing and turning. It also helps with nausea.

The only thing that ever helps a migraine for me is to sit in a cold shower with ice packs around my neck/head. I let the cold water run over my back for as long as it takes for the pain and nausea to abate. Laying down just makes it hurt more.

I suffer from cluster headaches - the most painful kind of headache/migraine. Cold packs dont help me but I recently discovered that intense exercise for about 10-20minutes can abort a headache and even works on 'shadow' headaches that sufferers get in between cycles. Higher intensity headaches require higher intensity workout to aid oxygen intake and raise heart rate but it really does work I have reduced my nasal triptan usage by atleast 75% since I found this method. Hope this helps someone it's a rare condition but I'm sure there is someone out there that needs this like I did - I was having really bad headaches that would last hours it starts in trigeminal nerve in neck and moves from front to back, teeth, and characteristically on one side of face usually right eye. Feels like an ice pick being driven into your eye.

Where can I get a cold pack like this in the UK..the larger one with the soft side? You two are just amazing. I've had chronic pain for 30 years of my life but since doing some of your stretches, I'm finally getting longer periods of pain relief and therefore not needing so much medication. You both give me hope and I feel the "vibes"comjng my way haha ❤ Great job! ❤

I have the Sleep Ovation pillow they recommended which really helps. Sometimes I switch it up and use a different pillow that my husband found for me. A local lady was making them and selling them. It's easy to make. It's basically cut up memory foam, in small 1" and 2" pieces stuffed inside a zippered pillow cover. You can buy both of these items relatively inexpensive at Walmart. Hope this info helps.

I have amassed several sizes of ice packs in order to ice my head, neck and shoulders during migraines. It’s not a cure for everyone. It’s palliative more than anything for me at this stage with decades of migraines under my belt sadly. I can’t tell you how many hours of my life I’ve spent in a dark room covered in ice packs trying to relieve pain or migraine. It’s a good starting point but for true migraines it’s just not enough to become functional again.

My migraines generate tons of body heat and the cold pack warms up in less than 4 minutes. So basically they are worthless unless you have tons of them and change them every few minutes. That is a hassle. Anybody else generate tons of heat with migraines?
@SoaringWhiteSpirit
Жыл бұрын
Yes, and I also have skin sensitivity to topical heat or cold. So, cold packs are very uncomfortable and not solution for me. What works for me is a cooling gel rubbed into the areas where the pain is coming from. The most common area for me of pain source is actually what Bob & Brad mentioned - the shoulder neck area. Look up “Levator Scapulae” to see where this muscle is. I also use rice bags and neck rests for counter weight support. It forces me to put my head back instead of leaning forward - the leaning/tilting forward of my head tends to exacerbate headaches and migraines. This is basically the same idea as ice packs but done in a different manner. Not only can I tolerate the cooling gel, whereas ice is not tolerable at all, I find that the relief effect lasts longer, cutting out the irritating part of having the replace the pack as it becomes warm. Another thing I do and this does require some upkeep, but not too much if you set it up is have a bowl of ice water with a face cloth and put the cloth across my forehead and over my eyes. I bit of peppermint oil helps too.

I do. And I do have 8 ice packs for that reason. Because the ice packs do help. Ibuprofen and excedrin migraine extra strength were the only medications that helped for so long and it did a lot of damage to my GI system. The cold packs along with compression really reduces the amount of medication I have had to take.
