Let's just say it, "Men can be as good at quilt making as women. And, sometimes, their quilts turn out even nicer." There now, with this fact out of the way, I guess it comes as no surprise to anyone to see that you've been invited to star in an episode of your own. Well done! That was fun and I would say you did a "stellar" job, in all ways. I think trying to categorize what kind of quilt would appeal to men, in general, is a very hard task indeed. I do think , however, that buying fabrics that would appeal to the man the quilt is being made for is a necessary first step towards making a quilt that he would love. As I have learned watching your show, you can use almost any Fabric Café Pattern with any set of three fabrics (that work well with each other) to make a fabulous quilt. All the patterns share the elements of 1) great instructions and 2) being fast to put together. For a beginner like me, these facts made me think I, too, could make beautiful quilts. However, when I was trying to figure out what quilt I wanted to make for my son who turns 33 on September 25th, I had a hard time. I thought for a long time about what quilt I could make that upon seeing it, he would know it was made with love particularly for him... Last fall, Nacho died. Nacho was a wildly playful and truly intelligent orange and white cat that loved my son wholeheartedly. The feeling was more than mutual. When I saw the "Jazz Cats" kit I truly felt joy! I wish I had been able to purchase them while they were still in stock. The kit's fabric--once made into the King sized quilt that would fit my 6' 4" son's bed--would truly have embodied the messages Nacho and I would have wanted to say to our music loving BFF. I know he would have understood and have been warmed by this particular quilt for years to come. I shared this story mainly to help me express to you how important your channel is to your viewers. Yours is a family business that encompasses all who work at Fabric Café. Thank you, most sincerely, for keeping the fine art and craft of quilt making alive for the fun of and love in it.

Anita, Thanks for your comments. I too have an orange and white tuxedo cat named Oliver. He is my little buddy and is quite intelligent. I can whistle for him and he will come running. He will also sit next to me on the floor when eating dinner at the table. Then when I finish, I push back from the table and he will hop up in my lap for a little kitty time. Happy Birthday to your son. John

Loved your show John! Most quilts seem to be on the "feminine" side so I think it's great to see what a man would like in a quilt (& it's extra nice that you made them yourself.) The Kitty Play/Chain Reaction quilt was SO different from the original done in purple/wht/green. Iloved YOUR version!. I hope you do more shows with masculine quilts!

Great show of quilts John, I liked them all. And I have many of your quilt books. I would like to see the quilts that Hannah likes. Because she's new to the quilting world. I'm sure she's made a couple of quilts maybe? since the last one she made. That turned out very nice I believe Thank You.

Enjoyed the show. Especially liked the pen quilt! I would love to see you do an occasional collaboration show with some of the You tubers who do tutorials for the 3 yard quilts. Think it would be fun to let them pick out their own fabric kit and show their quilt. Then you guys could come up with a similar kit to sell. My favorites are Mac Cox at MA Coutour Crafting. Her series on how to zheus up a 3 yard quilt is wonderful. If you have not seen her take on your Baubles pattern, it is a must see. She turned the ornaments into lollipops. I also really enjoy April Story. Neither of these ladies know me. I just really enjoy their take on 3 yard quilts. Anyone who loves the 3-yard quilt patterns like I do should check them out.

That peaceful blue looks like the first focus would be great “cowboy/ pioneer wagon quilt “ or a tropical multi lemon - great design! I must admit- I have broken the rules on a boarder- because the 3 yard quilts are No waste!! And I usual use directional prints, it seems like I always need a smidge more- is that common?

notice the Chain Reaction needs 2 darks for the 'chains' if the centers are light. can't be the lighter/darker fabrics for 2 & 3 with this pattern or the lighter chain gets lost in the lightness. unless to negative with dark center and 2 light chains.

Hi Geraldine! We've asked around in the office and we are unable to pin down the name of the fabric in John's quilt. It's something John made several years ago, however, we believe it may have been a RJR fabric or a Wilmington fabric print...Hope that helps! Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the quilts today!
