I have been using Wyze cameras at my house for YEARS. One thing I recommend to anyone is to invest in 3rd party camera mount/cases when placing them outside. Make sure the case covers the reset button. Not going to stop a smash or unplug, but wont make it easy to reset the camera. Also, depending on the case and how you power the camera, makes it harder unplug the camera to power it down.

As for me, I'll Continue using my Eufy Spotlight camera. It is a wired mount with two large LED Floodlights. I put it in place of an old Motion light with incandescent bulbs. Unless they have made leaps and bounds in their "Facial Recognition", all my camera does is detect a human figure to cut down on false alerts from animals or blowing leaves. There is no option to "Name" the faces it spots. As for the reset button, if the camera is more that 2 feet from the router it's connecting to, it does absolutely nothing. Being in a rural area, I've had power outages and it reconnects quickly after power and router reboots with no loss of recorded video. It may be different with newest models, or when using the cloud or network storage, but mine has been flawless for over 18 months now.

It lets me see what is going on inside my building when I am inside my building, but, for perimeter surveillance I use IP cameras and, as a retired security professional, the first assumption made with every decision is "nothing is secure", and so I place my cameras where they won't give too much info about ME. If some hackers want to watch the neighbors, unused property, etc.. have at it. People pointing these things inward at their kids or their own bedrooms, stop doing that. That's dumb.

If you have a camera and it's connected to an internet source in any way shape or form, you basically have this same "Eufy" problem. All the cameras steal your data, unless you keep them off the net and store locally. Ring/Amazon has been sending their data to Ukraine to help train the UI, even the indoor cams. They also can give your data to law enforcement without your consent. Iphone tracks you even when the battery is dead. Android phones keep getting caught with hardware that sends all the info to China. The smart TV's keep getting caught for recording in your house. The new Vacuum robots are now adding cameras and guess where that data goes. Almost all new cars track your GPS and Usage data now. Heck, even stores track your walking habits using wifi to ping your phone. Only thing less secure than your home internet is bluetooth.

@@glynnetolar4423 Glad you asked. First off, These camera's will not work unless you have the app installed on your phone. Therefore the cams are totally dependent on your phone app. Should you get some type of phone upgrade and the app not work then you no longer have a camera. Now, Most of these cams depend on windows. Not this one though it seems. Windows sells your data to 3rd parties. You do not want your personal info out on the web. Next, The cams that depend on windows will not work unless you have the right drivers and the cam companies will end up holding your pics hostage and want you to subscribe to access your pics. The ideal cam is operating system independent (i.e. windows, linux, Apple) and does not depend on proprietary software to operate.

The sync thing, doesn't delete videos. It removes the device from the home base. If you resync to that home base, everything comes back. So syncing hiding videos, they could/should fix that in software. The pairing with a new home base, thats the big issue. Someone could steal it and add it to their home base or sell it. They need a registration thing we're old owner needs to deregister first. Then, the snapshots for notifications.. yeah that's not a big issue. It's so you can have a thumbnail in your notification. It's not uploading all your footage (they don't want to have to store all that). The vlc thing, thats local IP, so unless you're doing port forwarding, that's a non issue. The other actual issue is the event history, is computed/stored in the cloud with the thumbnails for home base 1 and 2 (3 is more powerful and does it locally). Tldlr. They're not stealing anything. They're uploading thumbnails for notifications.. cos they need to. If you want a notification away from home with a.picture, you gotta store that on the internet. Stop spreading bullshit and get your facts right. Focus on the real issues here. Which is the sync button. That's the big issue

Exactly. I started watching this and I was scrolling the comments to find how many people corrected him. And it’s just you!!! I couldn’t believe it. The only thing uploaded is facial recognition. And it’s for notification purposes. And the reason why it doesn’t get deleted when you delete it, is because of cacheing issues, the server has to delete it within 24-48 hrs. Also you have to opt in to that feature. By default eufy only does text notifications so it doesn’t collect anything, when you opt in, then it uploads the info for notification. I feel bad for eufy here, and I’m amazed again on how misinformation can spread like wildfire and it makes it seem more like the truth because there’s so many sites saying the wrong information.

So, people who are at the street intending to nefarious things have to: 1. Identify you have a camera 2. Decide they will commit whichever crime anyways 3. Know that Eufy has this flaw 4. Identify your camera as Eufy from far enough to mot be identified 5. Commit said crime even while the camera has alerted the owner 6. Then access the camera 7. Press the reset button to delete all info associated with their crime 8. Exit the scene The point of a security sustem is not to lock down a house and prevent crime, it is intended to discourage crime by making it inconvenient to the criminal. No system is fool proof. If the criminal is that worried, they would destroy your camera, break into your house and destroy your storage system. Again, make crime inconvenient, not prevent it entirely.
@sexyplexie

Not a criminal, are you? The main attraction of security solutions is to gather evidence. Compare the height, build, and motion patterns of a criminal to past recordings and narrow down suspects. Share findings with law enforcement. ..only a non-criminal would think that a camera deters crime. They don't. That's not what these things are designed to do. These things are firstly designed to capture evidence, secondly to provide you with a live view of what is going on for safety sake. Call it "security" or "surveillance", but certainly not "deterrence". It is only a mere coincidence that any criminal might be deterred. You know what we own for deterrence? Guns. With little stickers on the windows that state "this home is armed" with the silhouette of a handgun. How many criminal events have we had? 0 How many have I lived through in my life? 5 (3 burglaries, 2 armed.) But hey, defend the faulty products. It's hip to be an edgelord, people will love it.

I get your point, but you are not actually putting yourself in the shoes of someone who needs to commit theft. The key word being: “need”. I am guessing you don’t live in a city, with neighbors and strangers who would habitually have vantage points onto areas you want to protect. The level of paranoia you are skeptical of, is just what we call “being vigilant” when living in a densely populated zone with pedestrian-level crime. Also, It doesnt take a genius to read “Eufy” label on the side of a camera… I live around the corner from a Laundromat where there is a lot of back and forth foot traffic directly in front of my front door. I get packages delivered to my doorstep. Some were stolen from me today. Unfortunately I don’t have any security system yet, but from a consumer perspective alone I definitely wouldn’t purchase one with an “off switch”. So It’s really not a stretch of the imagination to imagine someone determined to make a buck going through the “hassle” of noticing cameras, and googling the ways to disengage them. I agree that the cameras act as a deterrent, but the issue in question here is just dreadful design that defeats the purpose of investing in a system that provides peace of mind.

That "reset camera deletes external recordings" thing is crazy, and the "dump stuff on s3 with no authentication" is inexcusable. What is poor taste is not knowing the actual facts and making comments like this. The Hook Up's video is 10 minutes of excuses and assumptions. The fact is that Eufy said "your data won't leave your home and no one else can access it". Both of those statements are a lie... the end, anything past that is an excuse and The Hoook Up's video was one of the cringyist CYA acts I've ever seen.

A comment along these lines is, most cellphone, streaming players like Apple TV, Roku, even Dish, DirectTV, ""Listen"" and create a cache or cookie profile of you. They gather your searches from browsers like Google as well as spoken words it hears then "Feeds" similar things to you in your feed. These wifi listeners inside and around your home is an invasion of privacy.

for the easily pressed reset button, try attaching a cap over the button with a small pinhole in it so u can still press it with a pin? would make it harder for anyone to just press the button

Really no big deal to me. Like you said ALL big companies are getting hacked. For that matter any security system is vulnerable. I'd rather have my stuff stored on my drive than in a cloud that any hacker can access. And for that matter a black can of spray paint will disabled any security system camera. Still a good system for what you get.

First off as a professional camera installer you should NEVER have a camera in reach of anyone no need to. For rookie camera users this is just fine get a ladder and put it 8 to 10 feet up!

A couple things... 1: just don't do cloud storage. 1.a: even if using local storage with Eufy, the alerts are not being processed locally (except the newest version) and are sending those to the cloud... Which is outright misleading as they say it can be only local. 2.: while Anker could in theory be doing something USB wise, it's highly unlikely as someone would have noticed a comm device in the units, and enough techies use them that they'd notice if it tried doing something on a device. That's not 100% but it's highly unlikely. My take is that Euify had to stay competitive and deployed systems without doing the due diligence of having them audited and tested. I don't think it was intentional to steal data. It's still possible of course, but we'll see. The whole button reset thing? Holy Hillary that's just ignorant. My Dahua cameras do password resets via the cloud, but I also block them from the internet unless I need that feature 🤣

I just installed two solar powered security cameras and the door bell. People better bring a long ladder and be quick. Also, I share my recording freely with eufy. I'm wondering what you're worried about eufy seeing. Are you doing weird stuff in your garden😱😱

First off, you don’t need to know about the word stuff. I’m doing that’s between me and the deer. Secondly, the issue here was them saying they weren’t sending those images to the web and they were the good news is they’ve addressed this.

Very disappointing since I just switched to the Eufy cam 3 system and doorbell two months ago. Product works extremely well and is very responsive. It will take me a few weeks to decide on a replacement system and it is well past the return period. I'll probably on get half back on the $700 I spent on the two, cameras, base and doorbell.
@jaylucky8854
Жыл бұрын
Did you decide on returning it yet or did you keep it? The reason I ask is because I just spent $1,100 from Best Buy today on three (3) of Eufy’s newer 4K, outside cameras with the solar panel on them, along with the “dual camera” doorbell camera. Since I am still within the return policy of course, I want to know so that I can have options. I already have four (4) of Eufy’s indoor 2K Pan & Tilt camera angled at sensitive areas such as the entrances and inside the garage, and they’ve worked greatly for about two years. Reason I spent $1,100 more today was to add to my Eufy ecosystem for the exterior so that everything could be in one app, rather than having to operate 2-3 apps to look at all my cameras. Hopefully I didn’t make a mistake.
