I joined headspace and have started the free beginners meditations. They are so helpful, even though i had a v bad time with the first few because, yup, anxiety... thinking i can't do it, feeling bad, scared, didn't want to do another. But then the more I went through the next meditations the less afraid i felt and the more i connected with the guidance. And want to do more. Will subscribe for the course packs, thank u so much :) :)

This is my analogy- thoughts, stress, anxiety, are like waves in a sea. We cannot control the waves, but through regular meditation practice we can learn to surf on the waves.

I really really enjoy the simplicity of your approach. For a long long time I have been worried about whether I was meditating correctly. Now, because of the simplicity of this approach, which by the way my guides have been encouraging me to use, I'm looking forward to sitting and being still. The reminder from Them has always been "Be still and know...". It was there all along, I just complicated it. Thank you so soooooooo much for the simplicity. Blessings to you and your loved ones.

Yes we do need anxiety. For example if we are not anxious about COVID-19 then we wouldn't be taking precautions. But the problem with anxiety is that it is stupid and it doesn't know what to remind us about and what not to and how often to remind. That's where awareness is needed

I was really happy for months because of my spiritual practices and suddenly I had a lot of realizations hard to accept du to my ego... So I feel a little bit depressed and I have anxiety cauz I don't want to accept that I am God and alone, everything, everyone is me and I have to live lifes for eternity... Really hard to swallow but my insights shows me that this is true. Another hard thing is that you can't talk to your friends/family about this because they wouldn't understand and will think that I'm becoming insane or religious.

During your meditation your thoughts could be "Am I doing this right?" And then dismiss it with a shrug "probably" hahaha. Maybe I'll do that. Haha maybe I'll just be as casual as possible with the anxious thoughts...

Hey Andy, I've been struggling with these stressful anxiety attacks that feel like deja vu since I was a kid - I had it a lot as a kid, none as a teen and now I get it again every few months or so as an adult. It feels like I get deja vu once, than everything starts to feel like deja vu. I start questioning literally everything around me (my social life, social media, my past, future, etc) and feel almost forgetful of the last few weeks. I hope this sounds like something you've heard of and can you can give me advice on it because it really effects me when it happens. If there's a possibility I could email you directly on it I'd really appreciate it but if not I'd even love advice from other people in the comments on here. Meditation has helped my anxiety and especially headspace in particular - I love Andy's voice, stories about being a monk and the animation is just the cherry on top. I'm a cartoonist myself so I seriously love it. Anyway, if you have further questions on this please ask! Thank you!

Hi, I'm not a professional, just another young adult in the comments with anxiety, but I have also experienced a similar thing myself. When I was a kid I had bad anxiety in particular situations. It came off as an early teenager but returned to me when I was around 17 and experiencing anxiety in the same situations you did earlier in life can definitely bring back some uncomfortable memories that might feel like deja vu. While mindfulness and meditation definitely helps the anxiety, the root of it is still important to understand and if it's related to something in early life I would recommend going to see a counselor about it to help figure it out, if you don't already know. I did this myself when I was 17 and it was a decision that was not something I would normally make, it was definitely out of character, but it helped. Of course I still get anxious and I'm 20 now, but it's not debilitating anymore and I think if you understand and acknowledge why you're seeing a connection between then and now, that feeling of deja vu and confusion might dissipate. Wish you well.

Sir I am college student from India. I am suffering from anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder. I get repeated negative and irrelevant bad thoughts. I'm unable to stop it.kindly give some tips to overcome this mental disorder 🙏🙏🙏🙏

hemanth raj the idea is not about to stop them. You can accept them, defuse mentally from them, because they are just thoughts, and focus your attention and energy on your values and action based on those values. Just let the thoughts rumble in the background like an old radio, don’t try to get ride of it or listen carefully to what thoughts are being played. This is called ACT therapy. Search for the happiness trap by Dr Russ Harris!

@@elenachiriac7590 Excellent answer. What I would like to add is that anxiety as Andy said is the innate quality of mind. Its their to help us. Its the persistent presence of it that effects us in a more negative way. What I would suggest to Hemanth raj is just for 10 minutes sit with your thoughts. for 10 minutes sit in one corner, concentrate on your breathing and let the thoughts come and go without judging. Hope it helps. Cheers!!

Hi Andy, I tried to get the contact information for this ¨Ask Andy¨ channel, but nothing came up on the Headspace site. I really wanted to ask this question privately, because I really love the Headspace app and didn´t want to criticize publicly. However, I just have to ask: why oh, why, would some of your Sleep Casts encourage people to think about food when they´re trying to focus on relaxing and sleeping? Every sleep expert on the planet (including Headspace´s) agree that food should not be eaten for a minimum of 3 hours before bed, preferably longer, yet several of your sleep casts actually encourage people to think about things like cotton candy, syrups, banquets of all their favorite foods, etc. etc. I find this absolutely bizarre and inexplicable. The last thing most want to do as we´re trying to fall asleep is to start thinking about eating! I don´t know whose idea it was to include such mentions in a sleep app, but something is very wrong here. I don´t even bother checking out any new sleep casts these days--in fact, I finally got so fed up I don´t even listen to any of them anymore. The trouble is, I recommend the Headspace app to many people, yet I have no choice but to warn them about this MAJOR flaw in your sleep cast episodes. Such a shame to say the least. Can you please explain why this happened? It´s such a glaring inconsistency with all we know about proper sleep hygiene. Thank you.
