It works perfectly. The two full note bend at the end was not a reflection of the String Butler but rather a physical law that a metal string can only stretch so far before it hits the point of no return, and actually stretches making it longer. Darrell love your demos and constantly look forward to seeing them. You cover EXACTLY what people want to know, and do so in a way that makes it easy to hear the comparisons. Well done. I'm a fan.

Filed and lubed the nut, replaced the tuners with high end Grover locking, even replaced the bridge with a roller bridge. Nothing really fixed it. Almost two weeks now with a String Butler and she’s holding tune like a champ. Your follow up here helped convince me this wasn’t just a gimmick. Simple solve to try, instead of wrapping the d,g and b strings with one wrap above the string hole and remainder below so the last wrap is at the bottom of the tuning peg, try one wrap below the string hole then the rest above with the last wrap at the top of the peg. This allows the strings to slide over the nut easier, without binding. I got this tip on KZitem and find its much much better than before, my LP Standard stays in tune in the main, without any gimmicks.

Hi y'all. Fyi, if you have Schaller locking tuners then the butler isn't installable as the string hole in the post is immediately above the nut, unlike the standard Gibson tuners where the string hole is higher on the post. I have the V2 which is thin in the post mounting area but still too thick to work with Schallers.

Darrell Braun Guitar The 1976 BC is the hallmark quality guitar. I purchased 2009 American made strat for Christmas present to myself. I put all new pots and new dimarzio why a pull pot and put in a babizc tremelo system. The PSR tremonti I got for $300 on ebay from a pawn shop. I just received it ( work in progress) with dimarzio John Patrucci pick ups. The I also got s BC Rich neck though body Korean built for $300 and I am going to put EMG in it. Really if you shop hard you can get some of these and redo them and I would put them up against anything. I did get the epiphone les Paul prophecy on a deal for a used dealer and I have to say that guitar is amazing . At this point it is all therapy . I am a better tech than a guitarist but with help of your videos And a few others I hope to improve. Ps your super strat video had inspired me to build one. Being really out of date on my technical skills it was a bit more than I was remembering to set it up. I still have to tweak it in . But it is built like a bull dozer and their support people responded immediately and even at off hours. I am up at all hours of the day working so I was surprised to get emails at late night hours. But it is well built and has great sound. My 2019 super strat will use a Floyd Rose. I am thinking about that now. But I am super busy with the 4 guitars I am resetting up. 😱😬

Fantastic test, Darrell. Thanks. The string butler works because when metal slides against metal, the strings won't stick. But that leaves an obvious question: Why not just install a metal saddle? You might argue, that the strings would break easier, because of the sharp edges on the metal slots of the saddle. But you can just make the input side of the slots in a soft trumpet-like shape, while keeping the output side of the slots sharp. That'll solve the problem. This could also give a better sustain on open strings.

Darrel.. Realistically... the bends that "put it out of tune were not the fault of the guitar.. Strings are made of steel and will always stretch. And I do believe thats what put the pitch flat.. You sold me on giving this a try on my "17" LP standard.. It def had tuning issues.. I am amazed that this brilliant lil contraption works so well.. I have to say that problems tuning are 98% resolved.. The other 2% I have to believe are the crazy sharp factory LP saddles which I tried to resolve w a Schaller roller bridge.. Installed then noticed the funky radius.. The LP is a compound radius leading me to believe that the radius should be about 19"-22" radius at the bridge.. The Schaller is 12".. So..back to stock.. Which I dont believe is more than 14" radius if that.. Looks to be the same bridge that comes on every newer LP. Please give me your thoughts on the issue of Gibsons lack of a proper radius bridge for their newer compound radius boards..Thanks!!

Man, my Heritage h150 goes out of tune when I look at it. I'll be getting this, thanks for the review!

I'm sold. I will have to look in to it for I have a 3X3 head stock on my Gretsch.

Most impressive part in all this is your bending up a perfect forth on what I assume are 10 gauge strings.

Crazy, Gibson should consider using this system, making a contoured Les Paul, with min-E tune, neck volute, etc... a Les Paul for the modern player.

In reference to the reference to your reply I don't deny that the String Butler is a good fix for all guitars with a headstock design like Gibson Les Paul guitars but that does not negate the fact that it it a poor headstock design. A PRS guitar is a good example of how a headstock is correctly designed and should be made plus it requires no mods to make it stay in tune. When one pays upward of $3000.00 for a Gibson Les Paul one should expect an instrument with out a flawed headstock. That is the point being made not that the String Butler is not a good invention.

Wondering if part of the magic is that the Epis headstock tilt is less steep than a Gibsons 🤔

Would it still work with vintage tuners with push in bushings since they’re a little shorter and the bushings are smaller? Would there still be enough for the String Butler to grab onto and hold without moving around?

I think you just stretched the string there at the end. If it were to bind, it would bind already after a full step bend. This dingus is quite ugly, but seems very effective, provided your nut is spot on.

I understand that in theory the Gibson headstock design is not ideal for tuning stability. However, I have 3 Gibson guitars that all share the same headstock design. I have never had tuning stability issues with any of the 3. Once the strings are well stretched they all hold tuning just as well as my Fenders. Maybe I’m just lucky and got some guitars that behave outside the norm, but I doubt it. In practice the Gibson design works just fine, at least in my experience.
