They had so many ridiculously unsafe events in WSM in those days.. I cringed watching the bar bending. But Kazmaier was a beast regardless.

Well for one thing your, triceps I guess - not a physiologist, are going to be way more strong than your tendons and ligaments and you're pulling directly against those. I don't know how to put it but it feels like I'm going to rip my shoulders from my chest when I do anything like this. But also notice how they struggle and strain and are all over the place. The exercise leads to bad form and more injuries
@TheMightySilverback_

@@CapAnson12345 I mean this with no intended rudeness but the most correct thing you said in your comment was "not a physiologist", just to kill off all the rest of the comment immediately, ligaments and tendons are far stronger than muscles, far, far stronger.

Bill Kazmaier set the benchmark to which today's strongmen aspire. The weights will always become heavier. Each generation redefines what is possible. What Bill Kazmaier has over his competition is the mental strength advantage, his focus is second to none. There is nothing negative about his accomplishments, we should be looking at his example to learn.

I think Bill heard it, and I went over to meet him. He was a nice guy, but he did put his bag down and told me to watch it for 15 minutes while he "took care of something." I did of course. He came back and shook my hand and went on his way. I was 5'10" maybe 215lbs and all muscle, but I felt like I had a baby's hand when I shook his.

People argue about it but for me the truest test of pure strength is the deadlift, everything else has more emphasis on technique, form or endurance etc, but just pure strength is just how much u can pick up of the ground, second I'd say is the squat so probably who has the best combination of both.
@Mikemok1981

I dunno about that. It would be close. Kaz was a beast in his time. Dominated so greatly that he wasn't invited back to WSM after his 3rd straight victory. And if you look at their powerlifting totals Kaz has Big Z beat by a few pounds. And you have to remember he did all this in the early 80's. Imagine if he was in his prime now. He'd be a monster.

True it's like some people have the body type for deadlift don't usually have the body type for squat. That's why I would probably go for Paul Anderson because he had the right body for squatting and had an unbelievable squat but wasn't built for deadlift and still had a very strong deadlift and I think if he had competed in world's strongest man he would have had great achievements in it. I agree about Savickas I think for the guys who have competed in world's strongest man, he's top.

The Strongest man in deadlift in the world was Torkel Ravndal. He never used the suit (witch give 20 kg) or belt. In 1971 he sat a new world record in deadlift with 375 kg. In 1976 he was the first man in the world who lift over 400 kg in deadlift (402,5 kg). In European competition in Holland 1984, Torkel was already 47 years old. They have a deadliftcompetition using a car with rod behind. Geoff capes who was one of the strongest man the world then lifted the car which weighed 960 kg. Torkel asked for 1000 kg and lifted it. Geoff Capes could not believe his eyes and said later that he had never seen anything like it. In 1991 on a Norwegian television (he was then 55 years old) he lifted with one arm 285,5 kg in deadlift. It is a pity that he and Bill never meet.

@hardstyleremixer Body building has a specific purpose, to increase muscle mass. Strong men train for whole body training. Professional lifters train to perform specific lifts etc. It depends what you're specifically training for. One thing to keep to keep in mind though is that size does not equal strength.
