Hey, that's ME! At 4:30, you can see Tommy plop down in my lap! I've always wondered what's hanging through the shot and blocking my face. It's hard to see my face in the digitized version (much easier in the original film) but hey, it's a fun memory.

This album was the fist album I ever bought with my own money. Styx is still one of my all time favorite bands. I seen them in concert tons of times. I FINALLY got to see Dennis DeYoung in concert this year....he sounded amazing. Wish I could have seen them when Dennis was still in the band.

"Cold War" is a very memorable lyric with a cool extended meter. I memorized it at age 12, and at 40 I still haven't forgotten it. Styx aren't often praised for their lyrics, are they? I think they wrote pretty intelligent songs! "Rockin' the Paradise" and "Half-Penny, Two Penny" come to mind as well. Totally unique, idea-oriented stuff.

My thoughts exactly. The Kilroy album was not as bad as people made it out to be. A lot of the tracks were ahead of its time. I think TS and them detests it because of the personal issues they had with DDY it went away from what they usually did. Just because it was different didn't make it any less brilliant.

I personally am tired of hearing about this anyway. So they disagreed on what direction the band should take! That's THEIR problem!! Nothing against you or your post, I'm just tired of hearing about it and I think they're being rude and self-centered by trying to drag the fans into it.

Tommy's absolute best live, recorded, whatever, performance. His guitar playing and his voice were at a pinnacle here. My second favorite "all TS" tune after "Man in the Wilderness." To bad the rest of the Kilroy album couldn't even come close to the heights of this tune. If they had done just the straight "Caught in the Act" performance at the Texxas Jam in the Cotton Bowl, 1983, I, for one would have been a lot happier, and I don't think the band would have split. But getting booed by even a small part of 100,000 people was too much to bear. I was there, stage left under the upper deck, (escaped the 103° heat), and loved every minute of it. But the "smoke" was a little heavy up under that deck, and my virgin lungs barely made it to Come Sail Away, which, btw, despite all the criticism of this set and the crowd, they absolutely rocked that stadium on CSA.

"High Time" [DeYoung] 5. "Heavy Metal Poisoning" [Young] 6. "Just Get Through This Night" [Shaw] 7. "Double Life" [Young] 8. "Haven't We Been Here Before?" [Shaw] 9. "Don't Let It End (Reprise)" [Shaw/DeYoung]

One of the better songs on a low-grade cheesy album. I bought this album when I was 18 back in ‘83. I played it all the time. Even then I was disappointed with all the ballads. The uptempo numbers were too synth heavy. This song and Heavy Metal Poisoning were the best of the bunch. The album has not heard up over time. I don’t believe I’ll ever listen to it entirely again.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." -Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love

Probably just as far as they got. DDY adjusted quite a few of Shaws songs to make them hits. Shaw wrote Renegade as an acoustic ballad and DDY suggested it to be made into a rock song. DDY and Shaw needed each other so don't cheat DDY out of his just due. Styx would've never been on the map had it not been for DDY. I absolutely love this song, it's too bad TS didn't. He didn't want to write anything for this album and despises every song on it. Styx best album was equinox and that was before TS.

@@terraturnbow5392 Just going to point out.... I couldn't give 2 fucks if you doubt what I said. They contractually had to write for this album so just because he wanted this song to be third on the album doesn't mean shit. He had to contribute, so naturally he's going to want what he feels is best, put at the top or close to it. Artists have albums they detest all of the time, but have to write and compose for because they're under contract. Go listen to Shaws interview concerning this album and doubt his words.

And Tommy's ethereal guitar solos and harmony vocals made Dennis' songs a lot better, too. Remember Styx didn't achieve big success until Tommy joined the band. He was the secret sauce they needed.
