Watching this video reminds me how popular a sport boxing was back then. Hard to imagine nowadays for a boxer but Sugar Ray was a very popular public figure back then in America. An Olympic champion with charisma who was sort of a hero in America. Hard to describe to a younger generation - but your mother knew who he was - she might not watch the fight but she knew who he was and had a positive view of him.

WOW!! Sugar Ray Leonard you are the GOAT!! People what you have just witnessed was a METHODICAL surgically precision technician who put on a boxing CLINIC against a man who was 3 inches taller with a considerable reach advantage as well as a heavier man. But my IDOL & HERO Sugar Ray Leonard put that work on Geraldo who was a gutsy and fierce fighter in his own right, but he was no match at all for the SUGAR MAN, Ray made it look easy. Ray was FEARLESS, TENACIOUS, GRITTY, COURAGEOUS with the EYE Of the TIGER & THE HEART OF A LION. I still get chill bumps everytime i see my all time favorite athlete in all of sports. I had the opportunity to meet him and get his autograph back in the good ol 70's and he was a humble and truly great guy! Ray represents the DMV and believe me we have plenty of brothers in the DMV who can throw the hands because we all loved the SUGAR MAN and wanted to be just like him, i LOVE you CHAMP and we all are still as proud of you today as we were back then CHAMP❤👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Excellent performance by Leonard. He showed everything in this fight vs a big, strong, middleweight. It's mind blowing to think that there are actually some people (clueless teenagers mostly to be fair but the occasional adult that ought to know better) that pick Mayweather over Leonard at welterweight. I don't even think it would be a necessarily close fight. I think it would be a frustrating fight for Ray due to Floyd's defensive skills, but ultimately a clear and decisive win for Ray, similar to the Benitez fight. Leonard is the best welterweight of the last 50 years. A brilliant and complete fighter.

I have the fight as 7 rds for Leonard 1 even & 2 for Geraldo. That's 98-93 for Leonard. Although Leonard dominated most of the fight, it wasnt an overwhelming dominance. In every round Geraldo had at least 1 good flurry &, imo, won rounds 7 & 8 meanwhile managing to keep the 9th even. I think that was Leonard's toughest fight up to that point & certainly served as a tremendous learning experience.

The 5 ft 11, dark-skinned Mexican was a huge middleweight. Geraldo also gave Hagler a very tough, close fight. I think several fighters knocked Geraldo out cold before the first round could even end. However, if Geraldo managed to get past the first round, he was A MURDEROUS CHALLENGE FOR THE VERY BEST. Reminds me a little of Ken Norton, another puncher that could be taken out very early but who was a real challenge once past the 1st or 2nd round.

And Duran and Hearns! I Love Floyd he did what they didn’t! On the business side of boxing Floyd has no equal but in that ring at welterweight he’s down the list on my top ten at welter now at light weight he much higher but would have loved to seen him against Chavez Duran even Pernell not to mention Camacho

No pudo contra Geraldo. Nada más le ganó en hacer payasadas.

That's the purpose of boxing not to get hit... You want Leonard to stand and go blow for blow😂🤣🤦🏿♂️

Leonard went tow to toe with much harder hitters- Duran and Hearns. Ray was fast, technical AND he had a good chin. Están verdes las uvas!

Look at all the idiotic comments here. Watch Geraldo dance with Hagler for 10 tough rounds and then come back here and watch him take it easy on Leonard and let him look good while teaching him a thing or two.
