1984: Meet the Metro Lunch Dash Bunch
Work downtown and dine at Dadeland? That's the outlandish opportunity Al Sunshine reports on in this WTVJ news clip. It seems that the shiny new Metrorail hadn't been running a week before intrepid workers were hopping the Metro, headed for lunch destinations far from their workplaces downtown.
The fact that Shorty's barbeque joint tempted the taste buds right next door to the Rail's Dadeland South station no doubt lent momentum to this phenomenon -- Shorty's is still a beloved Metrorail destination, its luster only improved by the recent opening of a Trader Joe's just across Dixie Highway.
