@@akshayg3363 To be brutally honest, he doesn't make a bad Superman, but he lacks any charisma, he's just a bit bland. Plus he looks too young, especially considering that the plot has him returning after years of absence (on top of the years that he presumably had had established himself as Superman in the movie's universe before leaving). The Lois casting and her husband's doesn't help either. She doesn't feel like Lois and isn't a strong actress, not to mention she's also too young. Think of Erica Durance's Lois in comparison, how much better she was in the role. Only Kevin Spacey was perfectly cast, but the whole plot with his real estate plan is both unimaginative and boring. Which is a main reason why the movie didn't work. Plus, Routh's Superman feels a bit of a downer, low on energy and vitality. Though after the depressive Man of Steel came out, his Superman is full of joy in comparison, but that's a different story. Also, the cinematography is just dour, which adds to the whole joyless tone and feeling the movie projects. At least in my view those are some of the reasons the movie was a disappointment and didn't really work.

I don't think people REALLY understand that ‘Superman Returns’ (2006) was a direct sequel to ‘Superman 2.’ That's why Luthor knows where the Fortress of Solitude is and how Superman knocked up Lois. Most people I hear say that they just didn’t really like how Brandon Routh portrayed Superman, but Brandon Routh captured the spirit of Chris Reeves perfectly. He looks just like him at that age (Reeves was also in his late 20s during the filming of the first 2 movies) and totally sold me on this being the same boy scout/awkward dork character from those films. I agree Kate Bosworth was miscast being too young to play Lois (she was 23, while Margot Kidder was older than Reeves during the earlier movies), but as far as acting goes she, much like Routh, captured old Lois very well. Luthor seducing a rich old lady to get him out of jail and inherit her money sounds like something he'd do in the past movies. It's absurd comedy! A staple of the old films. And most people complain that the ending was quick and convenient when that was the case with the earlier films as well (time reversal, anyone?). Overall, I love this movie and it gets more shit than it deserves.

The problem with is being a sequel is the continuity issues. Reeve's Superman gave Lois the "forget" kiss, so this Lois wouldn't have had a clue how she got pregnant let alone it being Superman's son. Brandon Routh stepped in wonderfully to revive Superman after the dreck of III and IV. He was noble and brave the way I've seen Superman be ever since I watched George Reeves every afternoon on NYC TV and ran around with a towel for a cape. Routh was and still is unfairly treated for doing the difficult task of continuing a role that wasn't his instead of getting a fresh start. Then, Warner Bros hosed him by saying they were not doing the sequel he deserved because they had a JLA movie in the works that never materialized at that time. Now, I like Cavill an awful lot. In everything else. I cannot call him Superman. He is the Man of Steel, an angry, conflicted god who tolerates humans on a good day. It may be the character from today's comics, but it's not the character I grew up with and idolized. Christopher Reeve, of course, but also Dean Cain, Tom Welling, and now the terrific Tyler Hoechlin are all actors I happily and readily see as Superman. Cavill is Man of Steel and now can only stay that way forever after James Gunn has pushed him aside. Cavill does, though, have the best looking Lois Lane in Amy Adams. She just edges out Phyllis Coates who was beautiful and strong, and a better match for George Reeves than Noel Neill.

One thing I like about this incredible scene is the way Superman is conscious of saving the image of the father in the boys eyes. He asks the father "Have you got them?" as if he needed the father's help to hold on to them.

And the way he modestly says "I'll point you in the right direction at the end". There were some nice touches in this film. Superman shouldn't be cocky. Him saying "consider this mercy" in BvS was completely wrong.

Routh was Super MAN because he took it like a man when he realized Lois moved on and got a BF. Cavill is Super Douche because he's got an attitude and likes destroying things.

No, I fell for that movie and watched it several times. just because it felt like my Superman. Brandon was great. I was kidna gasping at every maneurism of Revee that he made. He was great. I did have a problem with lex though. I kinda liked the Gene Hackman version more, the Super-Intelligent criminal mind, not the Kevind Superintelligent evil-revenge criminal mind. It wasnt bad, but sometimes over the top.

I remember watching this in theaters when I was 10 years old. What really gave me goosebumps when I saw it as a kid was when the crystal rose underwater and was about to strike the boat as well as when it actually struck and when Lois got knocked unconscious with the door slamming into her.

This movie has its flaws, but it's still a great film. I remember thinking how odd it was that Superman was kneeling on the ship. It made me disbelieve he was holding the ship since he wasn't under it or still in a flying position. Then he lets it go... Awesome 👌

To all the 'cultivated' people who constantly found fault with SR... This movie, had more heart, warmth, depth and excitement than MoS by far. All involved with SR created an outstanding film, that will, stand the test of time.
@indrajithk2561
Жыл бұрын
SR is nowhere near to MoS in terms of plot, emotions, heart and action. SR is just a good superman movie from a Reeve version of Superman. That's it. MoS is by far the greatest Superman movie. The depiction of Superman in our real world makes it more refreshing and superior coz that's what ppl look for. What if Superman actually existed and the seriousness of the character. What he should face with his duality as Clark and Supes.I actually loved SR. It was my childhood fav. I haven't changed it yet. But MoS is just an amazing visual painting by Snyder and Cavill is the cherry on the cake and easily surpasses any superman movie that came before. That's a fact. People who can't agree are in a nostalgic denial.
