Awesome video . Living in ocean county myself this gave me so much information and history. Very happy that I found this.

Thanks for capturing this history. This is priceless oral history. So glad that he gives a shout out to Betty and Nicks. They’re good folks and I hope I run into this gentleman there.

Sorry 4 the long comments but this was a great interview. I also wanted to mention back in the day we would throw a butter knife with a hook on it for stripers, and blue fish. Today there are so many great lures, other then buck tails. The Johnny jigs look amazing. They now call it "slow pitch jigging" Tons of videos here on KZitem about it. Just reminds me of what we used to do for blue fish in NJ with buck tails, and diamond jigs, but now they have really improved the jigs, you most likely already knew this, but I still wanted to mention it. Again I apologize for the long comments, but this interview was like me talking to old friends, and really got my interest! FishOn...jimi

So cool listening to this! I fished NJ most of my life. Barnegat light house area 4 black fish. Brielle on the party boat Jamaica. The surf in Long Beach Island. Fortescue in Delaware Bay 4 weak fish usually on miss Fortescue with Capt. Jim Higbe. Great memories came back watching this. I won the pool on Miss Barnegat once with a 26lb stripped bass in the 1980's. I moved to Florida for the 3rd time about a year ago. I still fish both salt and fresh water. I have caught a bunch of 7lb + Large Mouth when I lived in NJ. as well. Asunspink wildlife area, Parvin state park, union lake, menantico sand wash, you name it, I probably fished it. I also caught a bunch of strippers in Delaware River in the dark. When the sun came up, the bite would end. We were fishing under a bridge (in my friends bass traker boat) in Camden NJ. I remember hearing gunshots one morning, and we got the heck out of there. We would catch strippers using spinner baits on almost every cast, till the sun came up. Recently I've been fishing Suwannee river, it's in my backyard. I don't normally even think about or miss Jersey a little bit, but watching this does make me think about it....FishOn.....jimi

I saw that they decreased the slot limit on stripers from 28-35 to only 28-31 inches. I wouldn't be surprised if the charter boats have to alter what they do as a result. As it is, RI's head boat stopped doing their nighttime stripers altogether last year.

Check out Lou Figurelli. He single handedly stop the netting of menhaden in the Raritan Bay. There is a detailed story about his success in the New York Magazine April 16th, 1990. The link is way too long to post here.
