My Dreamcast's modem became my first introduction to the internet back in 2002, with the help of my friend I somehow got it set up and working. It was sooo cool, at the time all the websites were still working and fully accessible from Dreamcast, downloaded stuff like images went straight to the memory card which was wild because I thought it could only store game files. Contemporary internet subscription models were pretty weird too, instead of selling traffic data some providers sold redeemable cards with specified amounts of hours that you could browse, so leaving a simple text page open was still using up your internet time. I used to buy such cards for my DC and what I did to save time was scroll through large pages of text on any given website while recording my session on VHS tapes so that I could read them properly later on pause, that way I got a lot of mileage out of my cards.

I was never a fan of Sega and never had a Dreamcast. Still a very interesting video to watch. I love that old dial up sound though, brings back memories.

Well, you should have tried it back then. Nothing got even close, until the ps2 arrived, over 1 year later

I still sometimes connect with my Hello Kitty Dreamcast with the broadband modem and while very slow the browser works with simple sites. I would rather not use it so much but my other Dreamcast that can read discs has the karaoke unit installed in that slot so it is too much annoyance to switch it out for broadband 🤣 I have the Net-Link for Saturn also but no way for me to revive that these days at least in Japan

Instead of replacing the shell. You may just want to retrobrite your console. It will remove all of the yellowing on your shell

I can't use my dreamcast because of the pin issue. The system resets. Bending the pins inside the console was a temp fix. It reminded me of the original psx (1994 1995 ps1) where you had to turn the console upside down to work after many years of use

>replacing the cooler fan smh The sound of a jet turbine revving up in the middle of your living room is like THE essential experience of being a Dreamcast owner. 😀

My friend's Dreamcast was relatively quiet but mine sounded like an electric razor and I was worried that it might have been faulty. Good to know that it's actually normal, lol.

Dreamcast was totally interesting back in 99 I was zapping on the clever America Online lol. I never owned a Dreamcast but my bro and dad and myself loved playing Sonic Adventure kisoks at Fry's and Walmart.

Unfortunately, you need to make a Dreampipe account with a PC. Then you are good to go. The internet was different when the Dreamcast existed. It actually worked faster and better than it can now.

Depends on what title you're looking to get and where you are. The Dreamcast Junkyard is a site that is regularly updated, so start browsing there.
