another thing about this movie, is they hired actual professional surf announcers and surfers to have roles, as themselves. the attention to detail of not only the story, but the sport itself is really cool.

Indeed. When making a movie about radical sports, especially for kids, it's easy to just treat it as a dumb fake sport you can exploit because children think it's cool. The Surf's Up crew treated surfing with the respect it deserved and the end result was amazing.

I got curious as to how actual surfers felt about the movie. From what I can tell, I think it's safe to say that it's extraordinarily highly regarded. Like most extreme sports, most movies with surfing as the focus just treat it like clay and make whatever they want out of it, not respecting the sport whatsoever. Surfs Up gives insight to how people feel surfing and what makes them go out sunrise to sunset to do it. They accurately portray the sport in every conceivable way and give nods to past surf movies as well. It's the Kung Fu Panada of extreme sports movies. Nothing but respect from everyone involved.

This movie showed a love for surfing like no other, im not a surfer, i cant swim, im not even a big fan of surfing, i dont hate it i just dont really care for it!! But this movie makes you feel like you LOVE surfing and you love the waves and the water, its such a natural feeling movie and it makes you genuinely love the characters and their personalities. I damn near cried a few times, this movie is so good bro

Thank you. Got stuck, with worrying if stuff was perfect. Like that Dickinson poem about letting a creative work out to the public. Weirdly needed to hear this exact message. Thank you.

This video came at a great time for me, I've been trying to write a book lately, and have been struggling a bit, worrying about it. I'm like a third of the way through and started feeling terrible about how it would turn out. Thanks for reminding me why I started at all.

Growing up in the 2000s mostly, the tropes were mostly extreme sports, the mean high school girls, and the playstation 2, which everyone liked including me. This movie was very fun and I wondered how they took the time to make it like somebody was in the movie motion capturing the animation, which was cool.

Bro I love you. Your genuine, not over excited or algorithmic. You just make stuff you find interesting and like. I just want to make sure you know ALOT of people enjoy these type of vids to sit back a escape with for a sec. Much love

dude thank you so much for making this video! i’m working on a movie review for the new black panther movie, and that bit at the end really made me realize that I need to take my time and enjoy the process instead of be so worried about deadlines that don’t exist. thank you 🙏.

this movie really is a gem and you can really feel the authenticity that this movie has that is so different to other movies - that's what i love most about it - it feels soo real and that makes it even more magical in a way, and it's also just such a great and relaxing time watching the movie :) i also love the Score of this by mychael danna - so beautiful melodies to it and as a whole how they animated some surf scenes and all is amazing and lets you feel like you are in the wave - and great talking about the message and how you opened up yourself about it, really cool - you can so easily forget to enjoy the ride and this movie has probably the best delivery of this message

Nice!✨️ I watched it when I was 7 and it was really fun. I also thought the documentary style added to its charm. And the soundtrack, especially this song 'Like the ocean beats the moon to take the tides away, all we need is a little time to chase the blues away...'(not sure of the lyrics)✨️ The surf song, it was so calming and refreshing.
