Dr Thomas George T (MBBS, MS, DO, DNB), Senior Consultant Glaucoma, Cataract-Phaco Services, Chaithanya Eye Hospital explains about the surgical option for Glaucoma.
Trabeculectomy is recommended only in cases where Glaucoma has reached an advanced stage and in cases where medications do not give the desired results.
The main aim of Glaucoma Surgery is to maintain the Intraocular pressure.
The recovery period after Trabeculectomy is around 3 months wherein strict follow up with your doctor is required. Reassesment and adjustment of intraocular pressure is done during the recovery period. Hence it becomes very important to follow the post-surgical instructions given by your doctor. If the recommended follow up is not maintained during the post-surgical recovery period, there might be chances of failure of the surgical treatment.
