You forgot the most important thing! Where the drive shaft goes into the differential is where they fail, not on the front splines. Hi Richard, Great bike but as you can see by some of my videos some of the fuel injection Boulevards have trouble with the idling. Mine has this trouble. If I were looking to buy a used bike I would buy an older one with carbs. Carbs can be cleaned an if they needed to be replaced they don't cost a small fortune. My video on buying the Honda ST 1100 shows I bought it due to it having carbs. I got it for $1800 and yes I did a lot of work to get it back in shape. An older Boulevard would need to be gone over but once done would be a great choice. Just my thoughts. Look up on You-Tube about Suzuki Boulevard idle issue and you will see what I mean. Norman.

@2001himax
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alec, Being a shaft drive your bike must have oil in the back end that you change like mine? I would try this first. Drain the oil, Have the drain plug out and the filler plug out. Then take a can of break clean and spray through the holes into the final drive while you turn the part that I show at 17;00 . See if that frees it up any. If it doesn't then I would put the drain plug back in and fill it with kerosene then turn it by hand and try to free it up. Next use break clean again to get all the kerosene out. Let it set and dry out. If it is still hard to turn put a stick of wood on the rear drive and put the other end on your ear and turn it slowly to hear if it sounds like it is rubbing. Last thing is I would tear the final drive apart and see what is going on with it. If you need a new final drive try looking on e-bay under used parts or salvaged parts. I found parts that are from wrecked bike that are a lot cheaper than new. Hope this helps. Norman.

kzitem.info/news/bejne/23qNuo2okYSDnKg Hi Bob, I have the Harbor Freight lift. When I bought it it cost around $160. Now it cost around $300. They have a table lift that use to cost $300 and now it cost $600. Harbor Freight prices have gone way up. They say the products now are better made. The video is a review on the lift I have. My Honda ST 1100 will not work with this lift. The engine extends below the frame. The Suzuki boulevard C50 and my 1970 Harley FLH both work fine. As you will see on the video I made an extra brace for my lift. It makes the lift very solid. On the shifting... I would take the shifting linkage off and see if it is binding up. I don't think that is the problem. It sounds like maybe something in the linkage under the left side cover where it go into the side cover. Norman.

Hi Casey, Shavings in the oil means something is a miss. I would take the rear wheel off and look over where the wheel and drive unit mate, then I would pull the driveshaft out to see if there any shavings on the front end of the shaft. Clean everything and look for wear or rubbed marks anywhere. When cleaning these parts I take them outside and use gas. Let them outside to dry. Watch my video "Fire in the hole" to see why. I also tell about finding parts on e-bay. Used parts are so much cheeper than new. Hope this helps, Norman.

Hi Hany, On the shaft and the end I put grease with my finger I use wheel bearing grease. In the final drive , at the rear wheel, I use Pennzoil SAE 80W-90 GL -5 gear oil or Valvoline SAE 80W-90 gear oil. It comes in a quart bottle and will do around three changes of oil. Auto parts stores have it and I think Wal-Mart has it too. Hope this helps. Norman.

Mark at Biker Bits explained what happened on his 2009 C50T, Harry, when he discovered driveshaft failure due to an O-ring: 2:40 - kzitem.info/news/bejne/mmuCzXeds3qJnaw ....................................... Cbonz77 explains catastrophic failure of rear end of driveshaft but not detailed disassembly, etc: kzitem.info/news/bejne/pqxrtpmZbHt2pZw ................................. After watching Mark's review and sitting on a 2012 C50T, I decided to buy a 2012 C50T to replace my 2008 Burgman 400. About a year ago, I bought the 2012 C50T with 139 mi on the odometer and have since only put about 1200 on it because my political activism (with Bikers for Trump 2020 & Victorious America Freedom Coalition) has me working on the beautiful weather days when I'd much rather be riding for the pleasure. I am concerned that though the tires have very little wear, they are seven years old so, before autumn, I expect to have them replaced. Mark (at Biker Bits) likes the Metzeler ME880. I thought I'd try the Metzeler ME888 Ultra Whitewall. At Blackman's Cycle, while they're changing the tires, I will ask them to lube the front, sides, and rear of the driveshaft now that I've seen your video. What year is the C50 in your video?

On my C50T 2006, the drain plug bolt for the final oil has a recess that goes around the end that had a washer like part in it. Small round piece that fit around the inside of the bolt end. Do you know what that might be? It came out in two halves and then I brilliantly lost part of it :(. What does that bold do besides act as a plug? Should I order a new one?
@2001himax
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, The half that you still have, is it metal, rubber or plastic. With a recess like you describe I would think it's rubber. It is likely an O ring to seal between the bolt and the hole. If it is hard it became hard and brittle with age. You can take the bolt to the hard wear store and find an O ring where they have them for faucets. Find one that fits in the recess. Hope this helps. If you are not up to setting them yourself then get a dealer to do it. A dealer here wants $360 to do it. The valves in the C50 make a small amount of sound but not a ticking sound. More like a sewing machine. Also having a Clymer book of his bike would help you. You can find them on E-Bay. The C50 should not be louder after 30 or 40 thousand miles due to the fact that the valves should be checked and reset if needed every 15,000 miles. That is going by the book. Hope this helps. Love your videos. I have a 06 C50 that I bought brand new in 06. It now has 16k miles, never ridden hard, well maintained and always garaged with a battery tender connected as it sits for long periods of time between rides. I recently developed what seems to be a rotational popping noise from the driveshaft or differential area (???), after the bike has been ridden a few miles and is fully warmed up. I removed and lubed the driveshaft, including the splines at the rear of the shaft, replaced the shaft grease seal and replaced the differential fluid as per your videos. the differential seems to turn freely and smoothly by hand (no noise or binding), and no metal flakes was found in the old differential oil. I replaced the rear wheel bearings, but the noise persists. Coasting with the clutch disengaged or in neutral makes no difference. Do you or anybody out there have any idea what's going on with my bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kenneth, It may have something with the breaks. While riding , when the sound is there, apply the breaks lightly , then a little harder, then harder yet. Is there any change in the sound?. Jack up the bike and turn the rear wheel. Make sure the break is not rubbing the break drum. As you turn the wheel push the break peddle with your hand down. You should have some travel before the break stops the wheel. Next thing I would do is remove the back wheel and as you do look at every part for any rub marks. Check every thing. A close inspection my reveal a rub mark that could lead to the problem. This is a start to finding the problem. Let me know how you make out. Norman.
