Definitely late on this cause it was posted 3 years ago but I need to correct this misinformation. Adjusting your floats won’t change your air to fuel ratio. Float height just ensures that the float bowl has the proper amount of fuel in it. After that, the jets are in charge of supplying “X” amount of fuel to the engine. The only was to change the air to fuel ratio is to change the jets.

Changing the float height will most definitely change your air fuel ratio.

@@Shade_Tree_TV Go fire up another one amateur. It DOES NOTHING to change your fuel/air mixture ratio. That ONLY happens when you adjust the Air Mixture screw to LEAN OUT the fuel excess. On non modified bikes their is NO NEED to change jets. Jet changes are for other mods, like 4 into 1 pipes, more air flow to the CV Carbs and/or Fuel Injection map changes. All the Experts that show up have so little experience and are talking out their arses, not knowledge.

Guys, I have a dyno in my garage and have tuned Probably 50 carburetor bikes. Float height is one of the most critical steps before you make any jetting changes. But ignorant people know everything So this will probably go in one ear and out the other. For the people that actually care to learn. Don't take my word for it call. Eddlebrock or Holley, you know the people that build carburetors

@@Shade_Tree_TVmarine/motorcycle technician here from UTI/MMI. The jets of a carburetor and Intake controls air/fuel ratio. Fuel floats controls fuel flow in bowls of carbs. Basic google search “does fuel floats affect air/fuel ratio” will even give you this answer. As per you have a dyno and tuned carbs aka sync them is laughable statement. Basic carb rebuild and adjustment does not need a dyno, unless you’re wanting to see hp/torque ratings. We’re not talking about injection tuning.

I have a 2001 katana 750 I just bought and it would run if you kept giving it gas. I took it apart and noticed the caps for the carbs had damage so I replaced them, put new vent hoses on and cleaned carbs put it back together and it sounds rougher but has more power but it’s extremely hard to keep running. Let off the throttle for a second and it dies.

Had that issue with mines after letting it sit for years. Try this: 1. Check that vacuum hose the small one specifically, from petcock has a really tight seal, and that all hoses are connected and tight. 2. Check your idle adjustment screw is properly turned to where it gives good idle. You might have to turn it up or down. 3.Put petcock on prime to fill bowls and Check that choke is not sticking and make sure to open choke up before starting and let it run wide open for 30s, then slowly close it down over 30s for a total 1 minute. 4. Lastly, check the throttle cables and adjust them in conjunction with idle screw. Hope that helps, my issue was the bowls were bone dry, the small vacuum hose had a bad seal so it wasn't pulling fuel and I had to leave the choke on a bit longer and let it idle high for a bit. Its been good since. If your not getting fuel in bowls there is small drain screws on the bottle of each bowl open them up till gas flows out of them for a bit then close them up.

I am late to this post, I did the same and my bike sat because it was winter. Months later tried to start after everything was put back together and got crank but no start. I checked everything my problem was simply the vacuum line on the left side of the petcock didn't have a good seal. I got some new fuel line clamps and walla it started. All I had to do from there was drain the old fuel from the bowls using the drain screws at the bottom of the carbs and put new fuel in. I added fuel cleaner just because...
