Sweet Dosa Recipe(Surnoli) - Without Urad Dal | Tasty Dosa For Breakfast Or Snacks | Surnoli Recipe
Sweet Dosa Recipe(Surnoli) is a type of traditional Indian pancake or dosa that originates from the Konkan region of India, particularly Goa and parts of Karnataka. It is made from a batter consisting of rice, coconut, and jaggery (or sugar), which is fermented overnight to achieve a slight tanginess. Surnoli pancakes are typically soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet in flavor, often served with coconut chutney or a dollop of ghee (clarified butter) on top. They are a popular breakfast or snack item in the region and are enjoyed for their unique taste and texture.
🥣 Ingredients:
1 cup rice(Any rice of your choice, raw or parboiled)
1 tsp methi (fenugreek seeds)
1/2 cup poha (flattened rice/rice flakes)
1/2 cup grated coconut
1/2 - 3/4 cup chopped cucumber
1/2 cup grated jaggery (adjust to taste)
2-3 cardamom pods
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 cup Water, or as needed
1/2 tsp salt or to taste
Ghee or oil, for cooking
🥣Instructions:
Rinse the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for about 4-5 hours or overnight.
In a separate bowl, rinse the poha and soak it in water for about 15 minutes or same as rice soak.
Chop the cucumber and keep aside.
After soaking, drain the water from the rice.
Combine the soaked rice, soaked poha, grated coconut, chopped cucumber, grated jaggery, cardamom, and turmeric powder.
Blend until you get a smooth batter.
If needed, add water gradually to achieve the desired consistency. The batter should be thick but pourable.
Transfer the batter to a bowl.
Cover it with a lid and let it ferment in a warm place for about 8-12 hours
Once the batter is fermented, add salt, give it a gentle stir.
If the batter is too thick, you can add a little water to adjust the consistency.
Heat a cast iron pan or non-stick skillet or dosa tawa over medium heat. Lightly grease the skillet with ghee or oil.
Pour a ladleful of the fermented dosa batter onto the center of the skillet. Make thick dosa like set dosa or spread it outwards in a circular motion to form a thin dosa.
Drizzle a little ghee or oil around the edges of the dosa. Cook the dosa for 2 minutes on one side until it turns golden brown and crispy.
Flip the dosa and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side.
Once cooked, transfer the sweet dosa to a plate.
Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
Serve the sweet dosa hot with your favorite chutney or enjoy it as is. Enjoy the delicious and nutritious sweet dosa.
✅Feel free to adjust the sweetness and amount of cucumber
