I remember driving to work one morning when this record was played on the radio, I was so blown away that I pulled off the road and stopped the car. It was very poignant as I was going through a very bad time with my other half at the time but needless to say I rushed out and bought the single, I still have it and still play it from time to time. Great, great song and it brings tears to my eyes even now...am I an old softy or what!!!

Absolutely breaks my heart to hear Colin passed. I live in Baltimore in one of the toughest parts of the city...I'm a real man's man. I first heard "I'm Not Afraid" and was blown away..so I went look for the CD which was hard to find in the states. Well...I'm not afraid to say "Sweetest Smile" and "Wonderful Life".. became my go to songs when I was feeling down. Nobody writes like that anymore. Great voice.. even better music. You will be missed Mr. Vandercombe..R.I.P.

Black were one of those artists whose albums just got better with each new release, their music is the soundtrack to my youth, starting at 18 with wonderful life, their next album 'Comedy' is a masterpiece of beautiful melodies and song writing, their final commercial release 'Black' has some of his finest work IMO

28 years ago a friend gave to me a music tape that included this song in the end. Almost every night I was listening this song. I had love it. In a small Village in north Greece with only three TV channels I didn't have a figure of the singer. I didn't know even his name. Later I learned so many about him. I feel like I knew Colin Vearncombe personally. R.I.P.

I listened to his songs without knowing who he was, what his name was, but then, when I learned much about Colin Vearncombe, I began to feel as if l knew him personally. And just recently I learned he's gone... I can't stop crying and sadly missing him... I really loved him.

Probably the most underrated artist of the 20th century. He has such phenomenal songs and should be on par with the greatest of them yet his songs have 10x as little views as they should.
I'm completely devastated...just found out 15 minutes ago that he died just a little over 3 years ago. How did I miss it?? I only knew the song "Wonderful life" since '87 so hearing this song for the first time is bittersweet and beautiful at the same time. Thank you Colin, you're voice is eternally haunting....R.I.P⚘

I know. All the best are treated like this. Kim Wilde, the Queen of Pop&Rock only ever gets fucking 'Kids' ever on shit radio, when they even bother there, and that doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of what she truly is about. Probably got the biggest spectrum of varied music and song structures and lyrics across the pop multiverse yet gets no recognition or thanks for it.Too busy going on about fucking old lags like Tina Turner, Whitney with all their rather lousily sung songs, God-awful one-note ballads and poop tunes they can't even write. Ditto Minogue, as for slagdonna the vile, don't get me started. Along with david fucking beckham most overrated arsehole on the planet with nothing but stinking shit for a (completely stolen) discography. But even remembered ones like Duran Duran only ever get a couple on some radio stations, and ABBA who are legends and may even be coming back with new music next year after millions of years away, get hardly any of their real genius spun, despite being labelled (finally) as one of the so-called music legends. 'The Day Before You Came' is now hypocritically fawned over (some 20 years plus later people finally GOT the point that it's not supposed to be 'Dancing Queen' the twats and it was intentional!) yet radio never has or will catch up to that. Commercial radio stations should be blown off the face of the earth and all their programmers, set-list robots and DJs! So should Madonna and her vile family of puppets.

I think my heart must be made of clay, 'cause everyone said it would be broken someday. And now I've come to that fateful day, so I sit on the floor with my head in my hands. And don't tell me how to make it pay, I write a new song every day. I just wish I was made of wood, I might not feel pain, even if I should, even if I should, if I should. The sweetest smile that ever did melt the pats in the butter dish, and if you could have believed in me, I swear to God I'd have made damn sure. Our hearts were warm, and glad with wine. I'd keep the doors locked all the time. I just wish I was made of wood, You might not seem glad, even if you should, even if you should, if you should, if you should, if you should. (solo) I think my heart must be made of clay, 'cause everyone said it would be broken someday. Seems like I have come to that fateful day, so I sit on the floor with my head in my hands, with my head in my hands. If I should, if I should, if I should, uh if I should.
