I just discovered you after I googled something about Leca. I am so happy to have found you. For one, your voice & accent make me happy. I'm in America and I'm southern so you know I have one. :-) I appreciate your knowledge about Leca. I became a plant parent after my dad passed away last year. I am a homebody by nature so buying one plant and then another led me down the path of KZitem videos, ordering books off Amazon and discovering what plants I truly loved. I am a newbie and learning as I go but I like to love on my plants and I overwater them. (I also don't like the chunky soil) I'm a tropical plant lover and was killing some so I stuck them in Leca. Roots started and here we are. I have ordered some of the things you've talked about and will be trying to grow the right way. Thank you again for your knowledge and sweet demeanor. Love from sunny Florida.

excellent video . am going to follow your steps. when do you stop using the CCS clone solution and just move onto normal nutrient for the cache pot? I am going to move all my hoyas to leca so this has been awesome to watch. and you are AUSSIE which makes it easy to buy your recommended stuff.:)

Thank you for your kind words and for watching and subscribing, much appreciated! I use CCS in the early stages until the plant gets leca roots then switch to Foliage Focus. I am doing a series on semi-hydro growing that addresses this so watch out for it. Click the notification bell to be informed. Thanks

Thanks, as usual, for your detailed video, LECA Queen! Instead of washing thru running water, what I’d usually do is gently shake the roots in a pail of water, and every now and then, rub the roots between my fingers. Only when I have most of the organic material off the roots then I rinse them under running water. Helps with removing the dirt and also saving water 😬

For cachepots, I reuse food containers or thrift store glass that I make opaque with spray paint, mini waste bins, cookie tins, sturdy gift boxes, and wicker baskets (with a watertight bowl inside), vegetable crates and food cans covered in wallpaper, smoothie cups and large plastic bottles embellished with fabric or rope...anything that can be repurposed in order to block the light and prevent algae.

@TheLecaQueen

Thank you. That happens with Hoyas, and any plant really. When you move it to leca, the plant is reestablishing roots so it looks like nothing is happening. Once it is happy with the roots it has it will start to grow leaves.

I tried this on three starter plants and lost them a few days later. I don’t know where I went wrong. I removed all the soil and potted it in leca. Maybe they were in shock because they were starter plants shipped to me from out of state and I transferred them right away instead of letting them acclimate to my home first 😢

Hi, very helpful video, though I do have a question. Do your soil roots rot/shed during the transition? And if so, do you just keep flushing or do you take the whole plant out and clean the roots? Thank you!
@TheLecaQueen
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words and for watching and subscribing, much appreciated! I find that Hoya roots do not shed as much. The flushing process does get rid of the dead roots. I try not to disturb the plant by taking it out of the pot if I can avoid it.

Dearest Leca Queen: Do you have any Hoya curtisii growing in semi-hydro? I have one beautiful specimen that I'd like to change to pon because it's in the soil the nursery grew it in and I don't seem to get the watering right for the conditions in my home. I can tell when it's dry, but then when I water it, I feel it remains wet for too long, and I get yellowing leaves that fall off. My other Hoyas love semi-hydro, but they have thicker and/or larger leaves and I seem to be more attuned to their needs. Do you have experience with curtisii, or a similar thin-and-small leaved Hoya? I'd make sure to use you long-method to transition it...but I'm still afraid to kill a mature plant! Any pointers? Encouragement? Thank you for all the knowledge you share with us!
@TheLecaQueen
Жыл бұрын
Hello, I do not have a Curtsii, I need to fix that asap. I do have a Serpens, Tsangii and a few other thin leaved ones, I just moved them straight from soil to leca with no dramas. I never use the long method for transitioning Hoyas, they do not need it, Have you seen the video where I take off all the Hoya roots?
@irairod5160
Жыл бұрын
@The Leca Queen Yes, I saw that video...but I'm not the experienced and confident Hoya Mama that you are! I will wait until daylight hours start increasing and try my luck with a transfer. Thank you for the encouraging reply! I love your work!
@irairod5160

Aaaahhh! That's too much work and too much water to clean the roots! I just fill up a large bowl, dunk the plant for a couple of minutes, and use a foundation stipple brush to softly nudge whatever soil remains attached to the root system. Only then I rinse the whole plant under running water. The initial warm water soak does most of the cleaning!
