Hi Phil, interesting seeing all the progress at St Marys. I have been through this area many times, though I don't think I have ever got off there. Anyway, all the very best. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

Growing up in StMarys in the late 50s and 60s I travelled by train hundreds of times and remember the station platforms along with the parcel vans stopping at the southern side. Originally the crossbridge and steps were all wooden with a level crossing from Queen st to Forrester Rd. Just west of StMarys there was a line that branched off to the north to Dunheved which has since closed down.

The suburban line platforms can already accommodate 8-car V-sets so it's a possibility.......

So it would be parramatta, Blacktown, St Marys and Penrith I guess. Maybe some of those services will. The very express one to Lithgow/bathurst probably won’t.

I hope if they decide to connect metro to Glenfield, they can do it in the same manner: build a new platform and let passenger to connect between trains and metro, rather than converting existing station to metro station.

Thanks, again, Phil, for a great St Marys update. I skipped visits, to give more time for things of a newer nature to start happening. Thanks for the Lift closure warning. Have to go back and check that again. I think you know I am dependent on Lifts. One thing that annoys me is the Destination stuff up of city trains. They say to "central" but they are probably going all the way to North Sydney or Gordon or something. Had a fellow got on at Mt Druitt a bit late and he did not see the platform indicator that did say to Hornsby or somesuch. Onboard he got worried as we approached Central as the train only said "Central" I had to assure him, it was going up the North Shore.

Oh talking about that, first time I took the city circle train, the board only said “circular quay”, so I thought the train would terminate there, and I actually left the train when it arrived at circular quay! It was later on I figured out that the train will not terminate at circular quay. It was simply not a thing, and ext station after circular quay was St James or Wynyard. Maybe the board just doesn’t want to overwhelm people with too many stations? Of course, there is also this nifty trick of riding through city circle to get to another line thing (T8 to T2/T3 and vice versa). It adds 30min travel time but I used to sleep on trains and ended up going back to central on a different platform that I thought, sleeping through the entire city circle lol.

Do you think St Marys will get Blue Mountains trains? If so, I hope it's not all Blue Mountains services stopping at St Marys otherwise it will be a longer commute between Central Sydney Terminal and the Blue Mountains stations.

It would not surprise me. Since covid, the mountains trains have been practically empty a lot of the time especially in peak periods. It certainly needs an upgrade before the airport opens because it is not a suitable interchange. Question I have is are they going to make this a terminal point and run frequent services in the early hours of the morning when the airport opens since it is 24/7 operations.

@@slugerama When you start doing the numbers there's not many very late times that suit likely routes. Even when they do you need to take into account that you need to be at the airport well before departure time, or take into account clearing baggage, customs etc if incoming. That often means the trains are still operating during travel. Late flights are more typically freighters. Plus only about 20% use trains, even at well serviced 24 hr airports. That might change in the future if WSI takes over most of the KSA load, but you are talking about the same time as the second metro from Sydney and Parramatta is extended to the airport.

One station is not going to make much difference in time. Only trouble is the youth crime which is rampart in the area will be boarding looking for victims. Not just passengers on the Blue Mtns Line but well to do travellers from the Western International Airport. The Government will shove the problem under the carpet like they do in all cases of juvenile crime.
