I recommend The World of Ice and Fire by GRR Martin, Harry Potter Page to Screen, and Harry Potter Film Wizardry. Have fun with the joys of non-fiction as a change of pace! (-:

I have been wanting to read the GRR Martin books for a long time, but I have been putting them off since he is taking so long to come out with the next book and I have a lot of other books on my to-read list that I can read while I stall. But they are on my list for sure! I think I will really like them. I think I'll have to skip HP Page to screen and HP Film Wizardy though. :/ I have a weird thing about book-to-movie adaptations, especially for my favorite books. I really like the first 2 HP movies, but I try to avoid watching the ones after that since it invades my imagination and replaces the versions I had in my head when I read them. I've only seen the 3rd one a couple of times, and the 4th one once (unwillingly). After that, I started boycotting the rest of the HP movies (haven't seen a single one of them). But I definitely will follow your suggestion to venture back into non-fiction to bring some variety to my reading! Any other non-fic suggestions? :)

The Adventuring Bookworm Aside. The most famous red-covered book is probably Chairman Mao's Little Red Book. OK no HP movie books & GRRM is on hold. (-: Tricky customer huh. Try the Cambridge Illustrated History of Medicine, the Cambridge Illustrated History of Surgery, & the Cambridge Illustrated History of Astronomy. Also try Apollo's Angels by J. Homans. Try Paintings in the Louvre, Paintings in the Musee d'Orsay, & Paintings in the Hermitage. All of these were pub. Stewart, Tabori & Chang. There's not a whole lot to read in 'em as books go, some but not too much, but the art is a feast for the eyes. Just watch that knee when you lift all of 'em at once. My fav book of art done in the middle ages is the Tres Riches Heures of Jean, Duke of Berry. It's an illuminated manuscript. IMO fun stuff.

TimeAndChance Ooohh, all of those sound wonderful! These are such perfect recommendations! Thank you so much. :) Those Cambridge Illustrated Histories of Medicine, Surgery, and Astronomy sound awesome! And I have added Apollo's Angels to my to-read list as well - I love books about the history of ballet! I have a Louvre art book by Abrams that I really enjoy. Also, and art book called Van Gogh and the Colors of the Night, which I love. He is my favorite artist. I will have to check out those art books that you mentioned, they sound great!

Van Gogh was an Expressionist. How do you feel about the art of Cezanne, Gauguin, Seurat, et al, the other Expressionists? I know the Art Inst. of Chicago houses a major Seurat work (& Poussin's St. John on Patmos, for which I did an essay on for Baroque Art). Van Gogh's Starry Night is at MOMA in NYC. Beware the GIANT plant! I have Van Gogh 1 & Van Gogh II, a 2-vol.set, though not one of the particular publisher's (Taschen's) best efforts. Their 2-vol. set on Impressionism is better. My fav artists are the democratic 17thC Dutch, for they painted a wide variety of art for everybody, not just for the rich & privileged. And there is always a different artist's name that pops up to be highlighted. These days the hilighted artist is Fabritius, of The Goldfinch fame, thanks to D. Tartt & her book with the same name. Not long ago it was Cuyp, & before that it was Hobbema & Ruisdael, & there are so many others who are polished specialists in narrow areas waiting to regain some spotlight. The era also had its heavyweights, the long-lived portrait artist Hals, the camera obscura fan Vermeer, & the icon Rembrandt. Pre-google art-fans were often real fans of art books also. Now one can if one wants dispense with books & "just google it" to see huge amts. of fine art & writing on same. Maybe books'll become viewed as an archaic art-form. )-: Part of booktube is basically YAtube. A lesser number of others prefer Classicstube or ContemporaryAdulttube or SciFitube. Wonder if a corner of booktube, FineArttube, would fly? It certainly would have lots of visuals it could draw on. Just a thought.

You have soo many hilarious book stories! Didn't you also tape a hunger games book close, so that you couldn't read it?

Whoops, looks like most people focused on the aesthetic qualities of the red book covers rather than the stories in the books. Oh well, I tried! At least mine is unique?
