Fanny J. Crosby (1820-1915,) blind author of thousands of hymns, wrote "Take the World, But Give Me Jesus," around the mid 1870's. A few years after Crosby wrote her work, the well-known musician, John R. Sweeney, (1837-1899,) of Philadelphia, USA, provided the beloved tune for Fanny J. Crosby's hymn.
Now long in the public domain, the hymn has been published in over 104 hymnals, including the famous "Redemption Songs," a collection of 1,000 hymns.
