When I was a kid, I used to read books about a character named "Encyclopedia Brown" who was called that because of his amazing level of knowledge. You sir are the Encyclopedia Brown of the machinery repair world whether it be John Deere tractors, semi trucks, field equipment or pickup trucks. The amount of knowledge you have stored away and ease with which you successfully take on some of these challenging jobs that most mere mortals would run from is nothing short of amazing. I'm not sure what you charge for a labor rate but I bet you are worth more. My dad was an Ford automotive mechanic for his entire life and he had a sticker on his tool box, front and center that said "the buck stops here". He was kind of the same mindset as you and would not sign off on a repair until it was done right. Thanks again for all the great content and keep those videos coming.

I'm very impressed! What a puzzle. So odd that they had parts in a parts tray from one kind of an engine, and a different engine in the truck. Maybe someone just layed that magnetic parts tray in the truck with parts from another truck. Could be that someone ends up scratching their heads looking for those parts. This of course is a business that is and always has been full of crooks. An honest mechanic is absolutely worth his weight in gold.

Years ago there was a guy who owned a 70 Mustang fastback that wanted some restoration and body work done by a friend of mine that specialized in Mustangs and Chargers. My buddy gave him a reasonable price quote for parts and labor, but the owner decided to take it to his "friend" (not really his friend, but they were all from Pakistan like he was, so I guess he preferred that) that just opened a body shop a few blocks away. They proceeded to demand a $2500 down payment for the work they "would do" (never happened) and proceeded to take the car completely apart and sell off most of the valuable parts - like the entire interior, powertrain, etc. Then it sat outside while they did nothing on the car (most of their customers had similar experiences). Then they went out of business about a year and a half later. They all just seemed to disappear as soon as the building owner evicted them, leaving behind a mess of people they owed money and work to. My buddy used to say whenever he would go past their shop those guys were always just sitting on their asses all day drinking Pepsi and eating pizza. All the Mustang owner got back was the basic unibody shell, a few sheet metal parts, and some of the suspension. He then had to go back to my friend, and it cost him a lot more money the second time.

I agree with you Warren, that was becoming a parts truck, and the shop was holding it as they didn’t want the owner to find out. Not sure how much would of gone missing and how they’d back track with the repairs as I bet the removed parts weren’t catalogued. The shop would deny it and say they couldn’t prove who took them, the techs, other customers or random people (not sure if this truck was stored inside, I doubt it, shop space is repair space). Thank you for the upload, and taking us along once again, it is appreciated, and hope your making a few beans off of Utube for your time and effort. Stay safe out there and so do your family!!

I also own an auto shop and it’s amazing how customers are unaware how unethical/unskilled mechanics can be. I don’t like to take unfinished jobs from other shops because it never fails that they “forget” to pack up all the parts when car is towed out of their shop. Some shops will also intentionally do something to the vehicle to make it more difficult on the next shop. They get angry they lost the job but forget the inconvenience the customer is going through.

😂🤣 I like u said it's a rookie thing to know what ticking means... No actually it's a Ford thing. BUT yea I agree a beginner mechanic should know to examine the exhaust, most likely the manifold since those parts are put to hell and back from normal use. That's usually where ticking comes from for sure, especially the ticking in sync with rpms. And any exhaust manifold replacement job is going to need broken bolt recovery kits handy, and some clever thinking.
