This was a very good car to me and I enjoyed driving it. The Talbot gave no trouble to speak of and was a superb performer; fast enough, ample power and very economical to run. On a long motorway trip the car returned over 56 miles to the gallon.
The GLS was very well equipped with a 1592cc Simca engine with characteristic top-end clatter, twin-choke Weber carb and I believe Peugeot 5 speed gearbox driving the front wheels. The gear ratios were ideal. Interior refinements included an electronic dipstick which flashed a red light on the instrument panel when an oil top was needed, full instrumentation which was very well designed and easy to read, remote control door mirror, automatic glove box and boot lamps plus two interior lights, and factory fitted radio.
However, the windscreen could never be made fully watertight, I found the clutch heavy to operate, the heater was only ever lukewarm and the boot suffered from condensation.
Still, it is a much missed vehicle.
