My dad raised me to be self-sufficient. He said he didn't want any of his daughters dependent on anyone, let alone a man. Vice versa, my mom raised my brothers to be able to cook, clean, sew, etc. so if some heiffa decides she doesn't want to cook or clean, they could do that themselves. I'm grateful to both my parents for those life lessons.

First of all, I just want to say we need a Tami Roman Storytime SHOW. Second of all, every time Tami said "baubles", I was on the floor. Anyway, here's my perspective as a man. I do believe it is the job of a man to take care of his wife (stress on the word "wife") financially. If I ever do marry, I want my wife to work because she wants to and not because she has to. If she wants to focus on the home, that would be just fine with me. If she has a passion and/or career oriented, that's fine too. But our home shouldn't be dependent on her decision and thus on her financial contribution. That's on me. (The audacity of a man to ask his wife to stop working, I kind of feel is a red flag, at least in recent times.) However, I do believe that a woman should have the ability and the know how to support herself because the truth is no one knows how life will turn out. My grandmother and her generation were largely homemakers. The husband worked outside the home, the wife inside the home. What was his was hers. My grandfather worked and brought the money home to my grandmother. She paid the bills, she put the money in the bank, she purchased everything. In the end they were married 61 years. But there were other women of her generation who found themselves in a world of trouble when their husband left or when he died or when he became too ill to work outside the home. Now she has to support the family, and often it was a daunting task because the only skills she may have had were related to taking care of the family. Today, there's a lot of "I need your money, but not your committment". Folks would rather play house than build a kingdom together, and any woman today looking for a man to come in and take care of her, settling for any ole dude as long as he can do that, he aint even thinking about marrying her, but she cool enough to have his children...that chick is in trouble. At this point the man himself is reduced to what he can do for her as opposed to finding someone whose very existence has you over the moon. Sorry for the long response. Just thought I'd chime in.

This is a whole word! Always have your own! Many men use money as a way to control you. Be dependent on yourself always!

That same scenario was my life 11 years ago (on a lower pay scale) but, I had my own life prior to meeting him and it has taken me that long to rebuild my life after that divorce and I am now a college administrator and counselor. I teach young women the importance of keeping your independence and not losing your identity and yourself in him. Thank you Sis, Love You and your platform!

Ooooooooooooooo tell em Sis!!!!!! I was 13 years old when my father and my uncle dropped that message in my ear we'd just picked my dad up from the airport we were on I-95 the message was make sure that in your life you are always in a position to do everything and get everything you want to for yourself. Never put yourself in a position where you have to depend on a man to do for you. If however a man comes in and offers you, and you allow him to do, you say thank you, but never let it be that you can't do what you want to for yourself because your not in a position to do it. And that and that alone has made me a problem for men all my life 😁😁😁 you can't control this one with money you may in other ways 🤫🤫🤫 but not with money Preach big sis!!!!!

I agree with you. But if a Man takes care of me I'm still going to work. I'll put his money in my savings that he gave me. So if he do dip ✌. I got my own plus his.

That part. I said my man has to provide. I never said I wouldn’t work and have my own. Example my man pays the mortgage because he feels it’s his job as my man to keep a roof over my head and the lights on. He definitely does a lot for me. Women are the help mates not the men. So she confused me with that. My man makes more so he has more than me and if you listen to her women shouldn’t get a man with more than them ? Who said that. I guess to each his or her own. I have a provider and a savings account I’m good. The teachable moment is. Yes women should be provided for and taken care of while she is prepared to be a help mate. I’m damn sure not gonna date a man who can’t provide for me and I pay the the bills. I want a husband not a roommate or companion. Sorry for the long response

@@katrinamichee7119 The ultimate message in her story is to not be dependent on your mate. A woman should always be able to or if circumstances currently prevents, be atleast seeking to have her own. Great partner/husband or not, no one is promissed to the other. Either by death, illness or a decision to suddenly part. You need to secure yourself to be in a position to help you or others. On another note, I think Tami's example of the man having more than you...applies to women who constantly seek a man that makes more than her with no intentions of elevating themselves. You know the kind that wants the most from a man but not willing to do the most to get to his level or better. Basically the lazy ones! Self sufficiency is key and when bonded with another self sufficient individual it's power at its best!

Preach !!! I tried to tell a dummy that last week , and she said a man don't want a independent woman , and she even told me I don't have a man. Now I mind you she don't know me & I don't know her. So I had to let ol girl know I've been married for 24 years and my husband was in the military for 16 years , and I always worked , because I was raised to be independent regardless of what someone else doing for you , and our children are grown own their on , and we still work. I feel you , because he could walk tomorrow , and I'm good because I know I can take care of me by myself 💯💯💯 You are speaking NOTHING but the TRUTH , GOD bless the child that has it own period....

You better PREACH!!!! You hit it on the nail. STOP allowing your life to be controlled. You should be able to take care of yourself, because a man or woman MOST DEFINITELY waiting to control you with money if you can’t provide without them stepping in. YOU definitely preached that word today SIS.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Facts 100% I been married for 16 years but I want more for myself so I can do more and have more. What I have isn't enough on my own or with my husband but I want more to handle his stuff and my own just in case something happens where he can't provide for us. I got us.
